As with the first three volumes, I really loved this one. I think the time jump was a good choice because we get to see the characters and their storylines developed a bit more, with new problems and new ‘villains.'
We're definitely seeing some strain in the relationship since Alana started working and they're not quite on the run. I am also quite invested in the robots and seeing where the story goes, now that IV realizes his wife is dead and he has a son.
This started with the television-shaped head of a robot baby being pushed out of his robot mothers vagina and it only got better from there.
The whole “this is the story of how my parents split up” narration and implications of divorce leading up to a physical separation not related to divorce–that's a cheap shot of a twist. But this series is still so good.
Ooh, wat ben ik kwaad geweest op verschillende van onze hoofdpersonages, lol. Als je zulke emoties voelt, dan is dat zeker een teken dat het verhaal je goed te pakken heeft. En de tekeningen zijn echt geweldig!
Story
This felt like a transition volume. Not a lot seemed to happen. It was mostly moving pieces around. Despite that, I still tore through it, and now I have to wait for volume 5 to show up at my library. It's going to be another looong wait.
Maybe I'll cave and start buying individual issues. Though most likely I'll just hold off until they collect 19-36 into another deluxe hardcover edition.
Artwork
Awesome as always. I don't read a lot of comics, but it seems sometimes artists take a panel or two off. That's never the case with Fiona Staples. I love her stuff. It continues to be excellent in EVERY panel.
4.5 Great story with unique characters and interesting twists and turns in the plot.
The third volume is still my favourite, but this one was very intense! Now the wait for volume five begins...
From a baby robot kidnapping to dragon semen recipes, this volume is some kind of “calm after the storm” but a bigger storm is coming. Amazing storyline!
Murder! Revolution! Actors!
Possibly my favourite one yet. Pushing the beautiful relationship to extremes and leaving you with no choice but to read the next edition.
Still good. But Alana and Marko are making their relationship harder than it needs to be. I realize I'm being highly subjective about this, and how they behave is probably normal, but I was feeling frustrated by everything they did and said to each other.
Izabel is also great.
This Dengo plot twist, I'm not completely sold on. But I could be sold very quickly, because the very last page of the volume has Marko and Prince Robot IV looking pretty BAMF.
