A reunification, someone get high and have stupid ideas, a longer than expected stopover on a comet planet settlement and more awesome (meaning pleasantly weird) alien species.
A family still trying to just...survive in a crazy world where appearances and race matter more than it needs to.
God my poor abused soul... after reading this I needed a bowl of ice cream and a puppy. Vaughn takes yours and my beloved characters and crinkles them up in his uncaring fist like a receipt from a McDonalds. Be warned...
I let myself get way too behind in this series. Catching up in time to keep being devastated by this brilliant, vivid, emotionally wrecking series.
Story
Another excellent entry that is at times funny, at times action-packed, and often tragic. There was a particularly brutal plot development for me in this one, but this continues to be one of few graphic novel series I'm particularly excited to read whenever a new trade is released.
I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here.
Artwork
So good. I could definitely due without a few of the visuals though. But hey those things are probably part of what makes this series so memorable. I might be scarred for life though. >.<
Loved this!! It's the least-confused I've felt by a Saga volume in a while ;) I noticed the back of the book called this a “standalone” which...it's not, you definitely could not pick up vol 7 and start there and follow it, but the story's arc was pretty self-contained within the Saga...saga. Very beautiful, touching, and funny... and goddamn those meerkat creatures were so cute!
I especially loved seeing older Sophie with Lying Cat :'''')
I continue to love this story. I remain riveted by the events and fascinated by the characters and entranced by the colors. I love Saga.
I noticed something. When the cute little creatures of comet Phang pray for deliverance at the end, we, the hip, modern, not-naive readers automatically know that their naïve foolish prayer will not be answered and THEY WILL ALL DIE A HORRIBLE TERRIBLE DEATH BWAH HA HA HA HA! That's what they get for being so stupid as to believe in a "god." Good riddance. But I have noticed something that this book just confirmed. In books that are obviously trying to impress us with their materialistic cred, the "god" always fails to come through; the person praying always is disappointed. I would expect maybe a 50/50 chance just based on randomness. In the real world, sometimes people get what they pray for, sometimes they don't. In a large enough sampling of fictional worlds, where it can go however the authors want, I would expect something in the vicinity of a half chance. The (almost) invariability of the theistic hope being dashed proves to me that the authors of such books, taken as a group, are secret theists, pretending to be atheists, propounding a god who is quite real and very powerful, who hates being prayed to, and takes revenge on anybody foolish enough to do so. Either these authors are secretly trying to convince us readers of their dark theology as I suggest, or they are trying to shove their atheism down the reader's throat. Either way, I don't think it very fair or honest of them. But other than that, I love Saga.
Oh, man. This one was a major heartbreaker.
Damn you, Vaughan.
Damn you, Staples.
As delightful and sexy as ever. I really enjoy having Sir Robot be part of this dysfunctional found family. I hope Gwendolyn and Sophie and The Will will join one day :)
Probably the best one yet.
Saga shines when it spends time letting the situations breathe rather than just rushing things along. This chapter gave the characters and world the time to draw you in while building up to some brutally powerful moments.
Seriously, that ending.
The story arc in this one wasn't as good as some of the previous volumes I thought, but the ending was a gut punch! Still a lot to like as we continue to follow the titular rogue family and the odd characters either travelling with them or looking for them. Still enjoyable, but not quite as much as other volumes....although looking forward to things to come.
