I really love the movie, and I'm enjoying going back and reading what it's based on. This volume is a good start.
Awesome graphic novel.
Witty and original it combines Video Games style points and explanation of people. Very funny
This is a must read for any reader, it's so easy to get involved in this comic. I love the writing, the characters and the jokes, it's so good. This time around it was a reread after 7-8 years and it was great, i had so much fun i can't even believe it took me so long to get into this story again. And as of right now I'm buying the color edition box set to have these books on my shelf cause the first time i read then I was burrowing from a friend in middle school.
The plot: Scott Pilgrim is a 23-year-old guy who plays bass in a band called The Sex Bob-Ombs. He's also between jobs at the moment, but that's cool, because his roommate has lots of cool stuff he lets him borrow, and he's dating a high school girl named Knives Chau. All in all, his life seems like something slackers everywhere would try to emulate. But then he meets a cute delivery girl, and her cadre of evil ex-boyfriends, everything gets turned upside down.
I thought this was just a lovely read. The art is simple, but in a way that makes it universal and accessible, and the characters seem to have a great depth to them, even only several pages after they're first introduced. On top of that, it's funny, it's madly energetic, and at the same time, it's capable of great depth. If you've ever wanted to be in a band, or be a character from Street Fighter, (or, hell, if you've ever fallen madly in love with someone), this may just be the book for you.
I'm hoping that starting out dating a high-schooler and cheating on her leaves a wide space for character growth, but I don't know if I'm counting on it. Enjoying the art style though.
A great young adult graphic novel. A fun read with a very likable main character. I would expect a lot of young adult readers would relate well to the characters and story. I look forward to continuing the series.
kicked myself to read the first comic after loving the film for quite some time
it did not disappoint
Oh, ho, ho, ho, the red flags! 🚩🚩🚩 WHY did the current girlfriend of the 23 year old have to be in high school?! Why not at least 18, instead of 17? 😬 All his friends seem to think it's creepy but dude is totally unfazed. The platonic stage of the relationship being the reason I did not run screaming immediately. The manic pixie dream girl is totally cool with Scott basically harassing her at work because ‘oops dream space'. Nothing about Scott's shitty behavior in going out with another girl while already having a girlfriend (certainly no mature polyamorous open relationship discussion is in evidence) just completely not addressed because: video game battle time?! And, yeah, honestly, ‘defeat my evil exes before you can date me' aka battle other people who think they have a claim on me in order to have a claim on me doesn't have very feminist vibes either. I'm just getting a very clear reading of icky male fantasy fulfillment. The fact that it was written nearly 20 years ago at least explains why it WAS popular. Think this is gonna be first and last volume for me.
