I loved every single thing about this graphic novel and I can't wait to actually buy it to add to my collection. I already downloaded volume 2, Delicates.
From the beginning I related to Marjorie, while I haven't lost a parent, I do know what it's like to feel like nothing goes right. The dynamic between Wendell and Marjorie was adorable and I enjoyed their interaction with each other. It seemed like they were brother and sister the way they fought due to the constant miscommunication. Marjorie's father needed to get his life together. His daughter is doing everything at the laundromat, trying to save it while going to school AND trying to grieve as well? Hopefully in the next installment they all get some therapy.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free ARC of this book through Net Galley.
This was a nice, simple, sweet story with art that was lovely to look at and well-suited to the tone of the story. I do wish it hadn't been quite so simple, because the overly-cartoonish villain did ruin the gentle, melancholy mood of the story for me, and I would have liked a little more time spent with the ghosts. I really would have liked less of the broad strokes of middle-grade fiction (villain, generic bullies) and more time with the main characters. With that said, I still found myself smiling and enjoying the book for what it was, flaws and all.
“It's difficult to list, in order, the
things I hate But I can say with no
uncertainty that laundry and ghosts
are currently tied for first.”
This was such a beautiful story. There were themes of grief that were done really well. The story is also adorable, I only wish there was more
First, read of the year! Woohoo!
This was a sweet graphic novel, I loved it! The art style the feel, were all...ah. The MC girl is in grief and is very monotonous in the beginning but meeting that ghost, kinda changed her! It was sweet that she worked (owned) a laundry shop, I don't see that often, lol. I don't know what to say without spoiling anything, but I liked the ghosts a lot! i recommend this sweet comic to all, I bet you won't be disappointed!
