This book went to the most stereotypically “horrific place” at the end to be laughable. If only someone had said “something nasty in the woodshed” I would have been appropriately tickled. Instead I was disappointed.Having read [b:And Only to Deceive 288159 And Only to Deceive (Lady Emily, #1) Tasha Alexander https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1411399818s/288159.jpg 806780] and the subsequent Lady Emily mysteries, this seemed like a similar though less enthralling variation. Lady Julia is not as headstrong or engaging as Lady Emily and the supporting characters are all but absent in Silent in the Grave. While Silent in the Grave had one of the best opening lines in a book, it was sort of downhill from there. I am inclined to continue reading the series as I've heard the second book is more interesting but I'm not sure yet.
