I should have known from the cover that it was a steamy romance, but I read an e-pub version with a different cover and hadn't read any of the reviews. The title simply made me giggle. I'm not a fan of spicy romance, but this one was well written, the sarcasm and wit was very entertaining, and the plot was engaging. If you're looking for a spicy and easy romantasy / monster romance / fantasy romance book, this is for you.
I wasn't expecting much while going into this book. And I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the ride.
Full of fantasy hijinks, this book feels like a D&D campaign. It's funny. It's got a simple but exciting adventure, and sweet and spicy romance. I enjoyed this book.
this was honestly such a fun time and i really enjoyed the plot and the romance
Oh my drops monocle. If I were to pick one word to describe this it would be “lusty”. I'm not sure it is really my kind of thing (it felt a little fanficcy at times, and some bits seemed to have a somewhat uncomfortable view of consent), but it was certainly an interesting read. A rounded up 3.5 stars.
This was so much FUN. It was cosy, it was exciting, it was spicccy, it's so nice to read this kind of thing, it's low stakes, it's hilarious and it's super nice to fall into. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a super easy, super fun cosy/spicy romantasy!
It took 7 months but I finally finished this dang book! It's not a long book, but I had a rough start with it and I thought about DNF-ing. I'm glad I decided to continue though! 3.5/ 5 ⭐️
The book is very enjoyable but I had to give it a 1.5 star deduction for a couple reasons. 1) The first maybe 5 chapters of the book are written like mediocre fan fiction in my opinion. The dialogue is a bit cringy. All the characters speak in the same voice. I found it hard to get into the story with all the modern day humor that's peppered in by our main character Cinnamon. However, once the demon Fallon is introduced and their epic quest begins it gets MUCH better.
2) The humor. So, I did chuckle at some of the writing but other times it got to be a little bit cringe and very modern for a fantasy story about a girl and demon hunting a false God. For example, “Intruders will catch these flames” as a warning sign. “Pillage and chill” as the name of a brothel. And the puns kept on coming. Most of this type of humor comes from Cinnamon, but there is a bit of an ensemble cast so they balance out her humor.
Overall, once I got past chapter 7 I started to enjoy myself and the book became an easy read. Fallon and Cinnamon are a great couple. Very cute together. I love them. There are some pretty steamy romance scenes in this book and mention of a couple kinks. So, be aware if that kind of thing makes you uncomfortable. The pacing of the plot is good and I think the action sequences are well done. I would recommend this book if you want a cozy- fantasy romance read. The stakes aren't too high and it's a breeze to read.
3.5
This was so cute and funny. I loved that Cinnamon referred to Fallon as “My Dragon.” Awwww, who'd of thought my depraved, dark romance is life, smut slut, nasty arse would have liked such cuteness with minimal but well-written spice? You live and learn. I'll definitely be reading more from this series.
Very quick read, almost a novella. The story rattles along, and is all about adventures and not much else, except for the spicy scenes.
If you're in for a fun, short, somewhat spicy fantasy read, then you might need to give this book a go.
Not as unhinged as book 3 so I'm wondering if book 2 will be more unhinged and it ramps up as the series progresses. All I gotta say is “Intruders will catch these flames.”
This book was incredibly fun! It's a hilarious, sexy, and magical journey. All Hail the Cheese Queen!!
I really wanted to like this series but I just don’t think it’s for me. The dialog is too anachronistic for my liking. Either be modern or be a medieval fantasy, toeing the line between both makes this a slightly cringe worthy experience. The third book is probably the best in the series just because we get a slightly deeper peek into the world and its history but honestly the entire mead mishaps series is a bit too shallow for my liking. I’m sure this is a me problem though, just not my type of humour.
3.5 stars.
I did the audiobook for this one. I had a good time overall. However, the dialpgue was sometimes “cheesy” even borderline cringy at some points. Overall, an enjoyable read.
Stands out as a delightfully cute and surprisingly unique addition to its genre. The story takes readers on an unexpected journey, combining whimsical elements with a plot that's both engaging and refreshingly original.
At its heart, this book is a playful exploration of fantasy tropes, reimagined with a quirky twist. The protagonist's accidental heroism, spurred by a drunken escapade that leads to saving a demon, is both humorous and endearing. The demon, far from the typical portrayal of malevolence, adds an intriguing dynamic to the story with its own peculiar charm.
What truly elevates this novel, apart from its imaginative plot and cast, is the quality of its smut. The author skillfully balances the steamy scenes with a genuine development of the relationship between the characters, creating a narrative that is both titillating and emotionally satisfying. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and their interactions are filled with a mix of wit, humor, and sensuality.
The book's real strength lies in its ability to blend light-hearted fantasy with moments of intense passion, all while maintaining a coherent and engaging storyline. It's a testament to the author's creativity and skill in crafting a narrative that's as entertaining as it is arousing.
Overall, it's is a must-read for those who enjoy a blend of fantasy, humor, and well-written smut. It's a delightful escapade that promises to keep readers amused, enchanted, and perhaps even a little flushed.”
I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is for people in a very particular mood, if you aren't prepared for it I can see how you wouldn't like it.
This is very modern wording in a world that is clearly not, and that can be a bit of a jump scare, especially in the beginning. However I found that this gave it a comedic, not so serious tone that was very pleasant to read!
For fans of Assistant to the Villains, this gave what that should have. If you are also looking for some tension and smut both are excellent done in this novel. I'm looking forward to seeing where the novel goes next!
In this book you will find: fated mates, insta love, diverse characters, sassy MFC, touch her and die, smut, banter, modern slang, and lots of action.
Contains spoilers
TW: Sexual content and death (only background characters)
I'm so happy to give this book 5 stars!!! I don't give it to just any book either. I finished this book with a huge smile on my face, and I spent the majority of the story smiling and laughing too.
Cinammon (Cin) is our star gal. The book is written from her perspective in the present tense. She is a spice trader living on her family's farm. She has a fun personality; she's sassy at times and funny too. She envisions living a quiet life in her village after an adventure unfortunately takes her younger sister away from her. Thus, she has no plans of adventuring.... until a demon tries to kill her. Lucky for her, Fallon is actually a good guy under an enchantment from an evil witch that he's trying to kill, and now Cin has to go along with him.
From the beginning, it's obvious that Fallon falls for her, and he falls for Cin HARD. He's so sexy and romantic. Seriously, he's the closest character that I've ever considered to have a CRUSH on. Would I call him my Fictional Book Crush? Totally! The way he smoothly tries to seduce Cin is so romantic. He communicates his feelings to Cin bluntly and doesn't force her to accept him either, although Cin does become frantic at first when she hears that he loves her and wants to marry her. What I love about Fallon is that he's not just attracted to her physically like all of these other romance books out here focusing on lust- it's more than that. It's LOVE at first sight. He wants to MARRY her and make her his WIFE. To mark her and make her HIS. I'm so tired of romance stories with guys or gals that just want sex with no strings attached. No offense if you do- you do you! And I'll do Fallon ;)
The world building is great too. In this world, demons are considered to be dangerous monsters. In some places they're considered to be pets and slaves. The word "demon" also incorporates all sorts of creatures: werewolves, naga, orcs, dragons, centaurs, etc. I learned that as the story progressed. Cin has to go out into the world with Fallon to locate the "Goddess" Myva's chalices to release the captured demons from her spell. They come across diverse, great people in their adventure who join them on their quest. My favorite would have to be Felix, a werewolf, and Ambrose, a naga-like demon.
I would consider this story to be fast-paced, but it lingers in all the right spots. The final chapter is also just *chef's kiss* perfection! There is a moment where Fallon is so overprotective that he reminded me of Edward Cullen *yuck* where he wants to confine Cin on an island so he doesn't lose her. Instead of freaking out and fighting, Cin calmly suggests a compromise where she asks Fallon to make a protection charm for her, and his immediate response is: "I'm a fucking idiot!" CRISIS AVERTED! Cin doesn't get scared. They speak and come to a resolution together. They're such a cute couple, especially when Fallon calls her "my wife" and she thinks of him as "my dragon". I really love their relationship. It progresses beautifully.
The ONE gripe I do have is that the author uses the C-word too much. I actually don't like to see it AT ALL (my brain fritzes when I read it). I can handle one use, but it was more than that. Is it normal to use that word now? It wasn't when I was young.
Regardless, I'm super excited to read the next book <3
Edit: still great the 2nd time around
Who gave this book the right to be this adorable.
I actually laughed out loud multiple times. And I devoured this book in one sitting. Sign me the fuck up for all of Kimberly's books.
I liked the romance and the characters, but the story (especially when it got to the climax) didn't really do it for me
I read this for the romance book club I am in. Honestly, it was the title and the cover that caught my eye. I ended up loving this. Cinnamin Hotpepper (they all have names like this) does not want to be the “Chosen” one. She's super happy just being in her cups and eating tasty food. My kind of girl. When she accidentally saves a demon one night, and her world is turned upside down. They (everyone) has been lied to all of these years. Cinnamin and Fallon (the demon) set out on a quest to make things right.
Highly recommended for fans of Legends and Lattes. A lot more spice, but same cozy fantasy feel.
Can't wait to read the rest of this series (saving werewolf for October and Mistlefoe for holiday romance).
