The Assassin's Curse

I hesitate to write a review now, rather than waiting until after I finish The Pirate's Wish. There are major plot issues still unresolved at the end of this book, which I dislike. The author did get her main characters to spot where I suppose it is reasonable to pause, though. The book is intended for the YA market, and perhaps (Harry Potter aside) enormous volumes don't go over well there.

In any case, the two main characters are interesting and likable without being unbelievably perfect. Neither are they unbearably annoying - something I have found all too common in the YA genre lately. The plot has drawn me in and I find the world fascinating.

On to the next volume!

Wow. What a painful reading experience. If it hadn't been a e-ARC I wouldn't have finished the book at all. Following an incredibly stupid protagonist around as she and Naji try to break a curse might have been interesting. But the author's amateur writing style, the lack of plot and story arc made this no fun at all. Plus, there is no ending to this. The story stops mid-plot and nothing that happens has any impact on anything... what a waste of time!

Em suma o livro é interessante.
A princípio, achei Ananna MUITO chata, principalmente com relação a seu comportamento com Naji (muito grossa, por mais que ele a tratasse realmente como criança e sua persistente obrigação de mantê-la a salvo de qualquer coisa), mas não é bem assim que as coisas acontecem certo? - principalemnte para fazer um cara gostar de você.
As coisas/a vida para as pessoas que são muito bonitas são mais fáceis com toda a certeza, mas isso não tira a sua virtude de ser confiável - e afinal, não sabemos o quão bonita ela é, não fica muito clara em sua descrição, principalmente por ser em primeira pessoa o livro mas o que a torna não muito confiável já que ela pode ser muito bonita, mesmo que para parâmetros normais.
As partes mais empolgante da leitura sem sombra de dúvida, é quando embarcam no Revenge. Embora simples, a autora colocou muito da riqueza do mundo pirata naqueles capítulos, realmente deixando transparecer que a personagem realamente estava a vontade com tudo, mais aquele era seu oceano.
Por um momento, você acaba realemnte pensando que tudo vai dar certo e coisa e outra.

I tried my best to read this book and enjoy it but it was a huge effort. A HUGE EFFORT.I never felt as frustrated reading about characters as the ones in this book. The MC is constantly irritated and frustrated. It's not bad that she complains. It's what she does despite having those complaints. The love interest is a pathetic gruff man always on about how powerful he is and how he has to kill the MC only to get his sickly ass repeatedly saved by the MC. And the MC of all things is pinning after a guy who is not only the worse ever man to be interested in (cause hello death threats) the guy has no redeeming factor to him. He trusts an insane ex lover to help him only to find out that she betrayed him. If that isn't rage inducing for you then honestly good for you. Enjoy what you enjoy. I on the other hand did not enjoy the menacing headache and unnecessary rage this book made me go through. None of it was worth it. I hate these characters so much. I rather read about the insane diabolical ex lover as she skewers through her latest victim. Or maybe not as I'm pretty sure she'll be made into some plastic rage inducing character as well. Oh and this shiz continues in 2 more books. A trilogy when everything could fit in just one book. Nah uh. Buh bye.
