I had read Fiona Barton's first novel “The Widow” when it was released and loved it. So, when I was given the opportunity to read her new book, “The Child” I couldn't grab at the book fast enough and I wasn't disappointed.
Always a great writer with interesting and well developed characters. I think Barton's second novel, “The Child”, is a better read. The events flowed smoothly. I would say Barton books are more psychological mystery then thriller mystery. Even if you see the ending coming it's not about the ah ha moment, but how the characters are affected by the events.
The reporter, Kate Waters, is the same from the first novel, “The Widow,” but don't feel you have to read books in an order. This is not a series novel.
I read “The Widow” when it came out and enjoyed it very much. This story was another great story. I
do not want to give anything away but just like “The Widow” there is surprise that you do not expect. Kate, Emma and Angela tell the story from different points. Kate is the reporter following a story that turns in much more than was thought. The author does a really good job weaving the story together. While part of the story does not seem possible, it has happened. Abduction of a newborn has happened. But the author puts an interesting story around it. I read this in 1 day. I hope the author writes another book with Kate as the reporter.
5 stars I love a good slow-burn psychological thriller, and Fiona Barton sure knows how to write them well. I really enjoyed ‘The Widow', but I enjoyed this one even more.
