I only read a few issues of the original comic of this title back in the day, and didn't think much of them. This is an improvement over that, although it inevitably suffers by comparison to the Sandman comic it spun off from. It's set almost entirely within the Dreaming, which comes under threat from some mysterious force just Dream abandons his realm, apparently for good. It's nicely written, and the artwork is good, and builds from a slow, meandering, beginning, to something more dramatic (which makes it probably better to read as a collection than as individual issues a month apart). Mysteries abound, and many remain unsolved by the end of the volume. The characterisation of the leads is also good. Spurrier isn't Gaiman, but he's at least taking a crack at it.
