Also, why are you in love with this colonial government of a man, exactly, Jocelyn? Because he's a good time in bed? Because he made settlements on your family? Because he allotted you an hour of his time each day? I mean, if any of these instances had been delved into in a more than cursory manner, I'd understand. As it was, each of these were a short conversation or occurrence that they don't lend enough heft to her declaration of love. You barely know this man, honey. And the little you know is not great.

That said, loving someone is all well and good but the capacity to love a man who was accused of strangling his former mistress to death(and you have no particular reason to believe otherwise) is certainly a discovery.
