I read this after all the hype. I enjoyed it, but not sure it lives up to all the hype.

Starts out with a serial killer getting killed at the beginning, and team of detectives trying to find his latest victim before its too late.

Meanwhile, throughout the book there are parts of an old diary throughout, that seemed to make the book drag.

Not sure I will continue on with the series.

Es una buena historia contada a dos tiempos, con momentos de mucha tensión, pero que falla al momento de unir ambas historias.

Resulta mucho más interesante el relato del diario personal, y que sucede enteramente en el pasado, que los acontecimientos actuales.

En general está bastante bien, pero sobre el final se desarma completamente.

Hay cosas que son muy evidentes y me han llevado a no darle las 5 estrellas a mi review.

Por ejemplo: que den por hecho durante tantísimo tiempo que el que aparece atropellado desde el principio del libro es el CM.
Tampoco que yo tenga experiencia detectivesca XD pero creo que esta gente debería dudar de todo hasta que no quede demostrado, no?

Otra que me hizo soltar bufidos al final es que suelten bajo fianza de una millonada al que roba ultramarinos, y no vean venir de lejos que su orejilla tiene los días contados.
Aunque por otro lado, pensaba que la muerte de la mujer tendría algo que ver con el CM y nada que ver... eso me sorprendió.

No me han terminado de convencer los diálogos con el CM, cuando ya se sabía quién era. Parece que mantenía conversaciones más adultas y envueltas de misterio de ninyo (en el diario) que de adulto... un poco decepcionada con eso.

Peeeero, en general me parece un buen libro:
Mantiene la tensión, me ha tenido enganchada de principio a fin.
Creo que hace un balance muy bueno (desde mi punto de vista) y con un buen ritmo entre la historia del presente y el diario, de forma que aunque haya dos historias paralelas no se pierde el hilo en ninguna de ellas.
Descubre al asesino en serie y sus motivos de una forma muy original.

Vaya, que ya lo estoy recomendando y seguiré con el segundo en cuanto pueda :)

An absolute thrill of a ride through the procedures of the police investigating a strings murders by a serial killer who targets high placed people who've done wrong by coming after their near and dear. Flashbacks between the serial killer's past interwoven with different narrative threads make this a complex thriller where the twists keep twisting and the turns keep turning. Chapeau for this feat of unputdownableness.

Saying I enjoyed this feels odd but it was engrossing and I just had to carry on and see what happened next. The mystery setup by the killer was well done and intriguing, and the other storyline of the killers history in the form of diary entries was also interesting and added a needed layer to the story.

I'm not really squeamish but some of the ‘diary' entries had me feeling the ick (eyeballs being removed and death by rat to name some!).

I was so annoyed at having figured out a big plot twist early in the story that I almost didn't finish. I would have started the next immediately if my library had the ebook but I won't bother put a print copy on hold if that describes how I felt about it. (Would read if available but not worth going out of my way unless I needed vacation murder reads I guess?)

Aku selalu menyukai thriller mengenai pembunuh berantai, lebih baik lagi kalo si pembunuh pumya masalah dgn kesehatan mental & memiliki ciri khas yg ditemukan dalam setiap korbannya. Buku ini mengingatkanku pada film Seven. Ketika menonton pertama kali, waktu msh kuliah aku blm paham dimana bagusnya film itu. Namun ketika nonton ulang ketika aku sdh lebih dewasa, wow, film itu adalah sebuah masterpiece. Dan yang masih kuingay hingga sekarang, ketika David Mills bertanya pada rekannya, “what's in the box?” Epic.
Menurutku buku ini sungguh cerdas, bagaimana penulis membuka cerita & mengembangkannya, menjadi tidak terduga ketika terungkap identitas pembunuh yg sebenarnya. Ada pula buku harian si pembunuh yg ditemukan polisi di kantong pria yg tewas tertabrak. Plot twist yg sangat menarik.

¡Que lectura más adictiva! Es un libro que prácticamente no pierde ritmo en ningún momento. Aunque tiene una que otra cosilla que no me ha terminado de convencer, debo reconocer que me ha gustado mucho y es una lectura que recomiendo definitivamente. Coincido con muchos en qué lo mejor del libro es el diario, debo reconocer que ese último giro no lo ví venir. Por el lado policiaco no está mal, pero allí si que hay cosas predecibles y algunos clichés. Me han quedado algunas dudas sobre las reales motivaciones del cuarto mono que espero resolver al continuar con la saga.
