I don't like romances with kids in them. (Truthfully, kids annoy me.) But Ipsial is the sort I don't mind. He's pretty much an urchin and has been abused/ignored before arriving at the abbey and it's actually nice to see him warm up. As for the romance, I liked it more than I expected to. There is an obvious class disparity and, unlike most historicals with such a thing, this one actually deals with it. Gerard is aware that he's in a position of power as Miles employer. As such, he's careful not to push. He is willing to let Miles make the first move, aware that he needs consent before they start something - and I really like that in the story.
