A more filler-ish installment of this series, but fairly enjoyable. I get that thirteen is an unfortunate number, but couldn't there have been a bit more plot wise to get us there in a more entertaining fashion?
De Baudelaires komen terecht in de Queequeg, de duikboot van Captain Widdershins en zijn stiefdochter Fiona. Klaus probeert te achterhalen waar de suikerpot van V.F.D. zou terechtgekomen zijn door de waterstromen te analyseren, en denkt dat hij in de Gorgonian Grotto zou kunnen terechtgekomen zijn. Daar leeft een zeldzame dodelijke paddestoel, de Medusoid Mycelium. Shenanigans, de kinderen zitten in de grot, vinden niets, Sunny wordt besmet, ze geraken ternauwernood terug, Olaf heeft zijn eigen duikboot, Sunny op het laatste moment gered, telegram van Quigley dat er een V.F.D.-afspraak is in Hotel Denouement, en dat ze de dag daarvoor op het strand moeten zijn waar hun verhaal begon. Daar aangekomen, zien ze Kit Snicket, die ze meeneemt in een taxi.
Ayup, de eerste keer op elf boeken dat er min of meer een happy end is.
3.5 Lovely to see different dynamics and new characters, but the series is becoming a bit too long for my taste. Hope that the last two books won't disappoint

Why were Olaf and his gang of evildoers so hilarious in this book??? This one's made me laugh the hardest in the series.
I didn't like Fernand at ALL!!! Also Sunny almost DIED!!! Again!!!
So close to the end now, I don't wanna say goodbye but I also really need for this to turn out good for the kids.
Kids go into a cave, don't find anything, get captured, escape. Aye! Not the best book in the series, kinda hoping the last two are better. Aye! Best part is Captain Widdershins dialogue. Aye! Or Sunny's developing vocabulary that holds some subtle jokes. Aye! He who hesitates is lost! Or She! Aye!
