I like how this series is consistently good. The romance finally made sense and the story took an amazing turn in the second half
Reread 8/5/2017: I'm changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. The first time I read these books, I preferred The Queen of Attolia, but I loved The King of Attolia far more the second time I read it (even though they're both wonderful!).

I seem to be in the minority since I loved the second book more, but this was still a wonderful, clever, fun book!

I really don't even know where to begin with this review. There are so many things to praise: the author's flawless world building, the political intrigue, the brilliant, complex characters. This rich, complicated story unfolds perfectly upon every page, giving you enough information so that you understand the world without getting too heavy handed in the details. I loved the way this particular book handled POV: you felt like you understood as much about Gen as the people he became king of, and throughout the book you slowly see more and more of his true character come out. Loved. This. So. Much.
Damn, these books are fun. A little heavy on the court intrigue, but even so I just find myself enjoying the heck out of Turner's writing.
I know the reviews on this one are mixed, but it honestly might be my favorite of the series so far.
I reviewed this series as a whole under the final volume, [b:Return of the Thief 40650301 Return of the Thief (The Queen's Thief, #6) Megan Whalen Turner https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1603971521l/40650301.SY75.jpg 16439607].
Intricately plotted, rich narrative and loveable characters. Easily one of the best fantasy series i've read.
Imagine narrating the main character's character development perfectly from the point of view of a minor character in almost 400 pages. simply an amazing 5/5 book for me
This book is gold. My favorite right now. If I could give it 10 stars I would. There isn't a single line of ‘less-than' writing in the whole book. Read this series. This is the second time I've read it. It's fantastic.
