A short story about older Elma and Nathaniel living in Mars. It happens 30 years after Elma joined the expedition to Mars. It's sad and hopeful at the same time.
Will Elma go on another space travel exploration or will she stay and watch her husband die?
I read it in a short sitting.
I didn't intend to start my day off by weeping, but I'm not sorry I did. Not sure what the point is of the Wizard of Oz reference, but this was a deeply affecting story that had more to do with human relationships than actual space stuff.
Mary Robinette Kowal can do no wrong. I love every series by her, and this one doesn't disappoint. This short story is heart breaking and beautiful.
Heartbreaking and beautiful, and a great primer for The Calculating Stars.
