I went into this domestic thriller excited because the idea sounded REALLY interesting. Sadly, the execution just didn't do it for me. The author seems to have a tough time in keeping things non-confusion/non-muddled while switching between the gal's POVs - it could've been interesting (esp when Thad was added), but it ended up just being mind-numbing. So yes, it was an interesting thriller IDEA, but the execution was below par for me personally. It's not a “why was this published” kind of book because I see potential - the idea itself isn't terrible - it's more of a “why wasn't this edited in a way that fixed the muddled nature of the book?”
Solid Story Full Of Unlikable Characters. This is one of those stories where none of the characters come out looking overly rosy. The characters that are developed well are either assholes or idiots, and the characters that aren't developed so well seem to barely be caricatures. That said, the story is solid enough and compelling enough that once you get into it, you're going to want to finish it. And sometimes, that level of escapism is really all you need. Particularly with when this book is slated to release, barely a week before Christmas, it could be near-perfect counter-programming escapism for the season. Recommended.
