I'd been wanting to read both of the stories in this series without actually knowing much about it. Just because of the covers and the buzz. I found this, book 2, in a library sale for $1 so I bought it and when I read that it stars seniors, I couldn't resist reading this without obtaining and reading book 1 first.
Major kudos to Mr. Osman for not including a major rehash of their previous exploits in this edition. I've stopped reading series for that sin. Looking at you in particular Daniel Silva. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the first tale even more now.
I'm a 62 year old American and I dearly wish I could live Cooper's Chase! Even if I'm not talented enough to join the Thursday Murder Club, I'd love to live in their thrall. Instead I might have to climb another mountain and find my own intimate circle of like friends to share adventures with. Obviously, I found all of the characters delightful for novel purposes, even the villains and those lie somewhere in-between. I felt the pace was good, personally I like a book that becomes a page turner that I can't put down in the later half. For me, the humor ranged from sly smiles to laughing out loud while kicking my heels! I'm not looking for realism in most novels, especially mysteries, so I found the twisty plot enthralling. This was an altogether smashing read!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary digital ARC. This has not influenced my review or rating of this book, and I was not compensated.
So this series seems really hit or miss for people but I love it. It gives me a lot of the warm and empathy you get from Louise Penny without some of the heavy-handedness, and I truly love all the characters. I thought this one was even better than the first book because you're familiar with the cast of characters and can dive right into the mystery. Plus there were lots of twists and turns in this one that kept me guessing.
Just as much fun as Thursday Murder Club, with a bit of spy stuff thrown in. The characters maintain their idiosyncrasies from the first book, and there are some serious bits about loneliness and the issues of aging, but the emphasis is on fun and it delivers.
A very pleasant and very British read. Smack in the middle of my comfort zone.
A delightful follow-up for these charming oldsters with a mystery that was better devised than in the first book.
I listened to part of this as an audiobook and it drew my attention to how much I don't care for the writing style; it would be grand if they turned this into a tv series so I can enjoy the story without the writing.
If you loved the first one, the second one is possibly even better, tighter and more focused. A complete joy
The Thursday Murder Club does it again! This was such a fun, cozy read! I love this cast of characters so much.
Elizabeth, Ron, Joyce, and Ibrahim are fantastic characters. They're crazy, witty, and quirky in so many ways! I'm always ready for their next adventure!
I also love Bogdan, Stephen, Donna, and Chris.
A cozy mystery full of twists, surprises, and crazy moments. I loved every second of it!
This series only gets better. Each main character is developed further, the sleuthing becomes more involved, and I become more attached. I love that the ending manages to surprise me, and I applaud Osman’s ability to evoke genuine emotion from the reader. Although this book functions as a stand-alone novel, it’s best read after the previous book. Highly recommend if a person enjoys British mysteries.
Much better than the Thursday Murder Club. Now that we know the members of the Murder Club we get to enjoy a fun, cozy mystery
The writing style is amazing and quite immersive, Richard does a great job with it. The characters are lovely. The story, the atmosphere - all very cosy. By this point I am convinced that Joice is a heart of the series. I listened to the book in audio narrated by Lesley Manville and I absolutely loved it, she did an amazing job! Totally recommend :)
This story has it all. A great second book in a series! I see there is going to be a third so that's exciting! It has romance, humour and a bit of mystery thrown in.

TL;DR VERSION...
I'm going to try not to go on for a few thousand words here, but I can't make any promises. Just in case, let me provide this version of the post first:
Why waste time wondering about this book? Go read it now.
“It is fine to say ‘what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. It is admirable. But it no longer applies when you're eighty. When you are eighty, whatever doesn't kill you just ushers you through the next door, and the next door and the next, and all of these doors lock behind you. No bouncing back. The gravitational pull of youth disappears, and you just float up and up.”
THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE
The Thursday Murder Club
What would I do with five million pounds, I wonder?
I need new patio doors, they're about fifteen thousand, though Ron knows someone who could do it for eight.
I could buy £14.99 wine instead of £8.99 wine, but would I notice the difference?
...So I probably don't really need five million pounds but, nonetheless, I'm sure I shall dream about it tonight. You would too, wouldn't you?
By the way, earlier, when I said Elizabeth is a terrible flirt, I didn't mean she's a terrible flirt like I'm a terrible flirt. I mean that when she flirts, she's terrible at it. Really all over the place. I like to see things Elizabeth is bad at. There aren't many, but at least it levels the playing field a bit for the rest of us.
THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE
“Anyone interested in something very weird at Coopers Chase?” says Chris.
Yes. Everyone is.
* I guess I should say “nearly everyone” I'm sure there are readers who weren't taken in by Osman's charm. I don't understand those people, but I should acknowledge their existence.
The Thursday Murder Club
The second light-hearted outing from Mr Osman. Hugely enjoyable, although possibly not quite up to the standards of the first but still an excellent romp and a must read if you want to go on to the excellent third book.
In this highly entertaining installment of The Thursday Murder Club series, the club members are all back, and they have a new mystery to solve.
Elizabeth's ex-husband, who also happens to be a member of MI5, turns up looking for a place to hide because some very violent men are threatening his life in relation to some stolen diamonds. When dead bodies start turning up, Elizabeth and the rest of the Thursday Murder Club (Joyce, Ron, & Ibrahim) begin investigating and become entangled in the search for the diamonds, which puts their lives at risk.
This book was such a delight to read. I found it to be better than the first book in the series. I was laughing from the very first page to the end. I will forever adore the members of the Thursday Murder Club. They are a great example of a found family. They are there for each other, even if it might mean death. The witty banter between these elderly individuals is so entertaining that I often found myself laughing out loud.
The plot is fast-paced and the stakes are often high. However, you almost forget the danger because the conversations between the characters make it seem like every situation is just another fun outing for the gang and not a big deal. This contrast is what makes the story so enjoyable and light-hearted in spite of the content (murder, spies, theft, etc.). While a lot of the action is unbelievable, I am not bothered because it is all just so much fun.
I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a murder mystery, but also wants a light-hearted laugh and lovable characters. I will definitely be continuing the series.
Perhaps way too farfetched yet enjoyable all the same if you want some cosy mystery
