Frank Rath thought he was done with murder when he turned in his detective's badge to become a private investigator and raise a daughter alone. Then the police in his remote rural community of Canaan find an '89 Monte Carlo abandoned by the side of the road, and the beautiful teenage girl who owned the car seems to have disappeared without a trace. Soon Rath's investigation brings him face-to-face with the darkest abominations of the human soul.

Fast paced thrilling read with several twists. Some of them I saw coming and some I didn't. Much of the violence is “off screen” which I preferred. The setting is creepy and compelling.
Overall I liked reading it. My only complaint is that I didn't realize this was the middle of a series when I got it. And this one is left on a cliffhanger. We get more time with Rath and Detective Test. That's good, but I would have preferred to have this one wrapped up and then another separate mystery for the next book. But that's a small issue.
