One of my favorite new reads of the 2023. Not perfect, but I do find myself randomly thinking about it from time to time. Its the first Baxter I've read, and I hear that some of the themes in this book are ground he's already tread on before. But for me, it was all new. Really liked it and will certainly be seeking out more Baxter in the future.
The author takes what appears to be two very separate narrative threads and weaves them together into a literally universe-straddling epic of the type he creates so very well, with a satisfying melding of said threads to conclude the tale.
Some aspects get belaboured more than they need to but it's a good book exploring the concept of far future humanity in a sane, almost mundane way (not that the things that happen aren't fantastical). For me personally, it didn't breach the 3 mark.
