D'Artagnan becomes the friend of Athos, Porthos, and Aramis after dueling with each. He is in love with Constance Bonancieux who urges him and his friends to go to England to retrieve 2 diamond studs the queen had given her lover. Richelieu, the chief minister, will stop at nothing to keep the Musketeers from interfering with his plan to ruin Queen Anne's reputation and her influence over the king.
