So Ruri has a childhood friend(?), Asahi, who seems like she gets by on life by manipulating people into doing what she wants. Ruri has a doll? Asahi wants it. Ruri has a friend? Asahi wants to be the better one. Ruri's unique hair color? Asahi dyes her hair. All her life Ruri has lived under the thumb of this tyrannical friend, and when she gets an opportunity to move away to college, she purposely chooses one that Asahi can't get into just to get away from her friend. Lo and behold, Asahi follows her. So it's no surprise to anyone familiar with anime and manga isekai plotlines that when a portal opens and sucks Ruri in, Asahi follows and proceeds to wrap the entire kingdom around her finger. Ruri gets ousted and exiled, and finds her way to the demihuman kingdom instead. There, she learns about her strong connection to fairies and the burden her power can be.
If there's a lack of any sort of cat description here, it's because aside from near the end of this first volume, there's a distinct lack of the cat I was promised. I get the worldbuilding and necessity, but considering the title prominently features “cat”, I was expecting more cat in my story. The artwork, however, is gorgeous, and the story that is being told is cute, if a bit shallow for what I normally read for.
I'm going to give this series another volume or two to see if we get more cat in the “cat” story, but for the time being I'll go with “cautiously optimistic” on my opinion of this series.
