Als je bekend bent met de boeken van the Song of Ice and Fire, dan is dit zeker een must-read. Waar die serie soms overweldigend en uitgebreid kan zijn blijft The First Law daar en tegen klein en richt het zich in eerste deel met name op de introductie en ontwikkeling van sterkte karakters. In veel fantasy boeken draait het om zwart en wit, maar de karakters in the First Law zijn eerder grijs. Abercrombie is ook uitstekend in staat om indrukwekkende gevechtsscenes op papier te krijgen. Ik ben nieuwsgierig naar de andere boeken in the circle of the world.
