Winning the Earl of Winchester

Winning the Earl of Winchester is the first in a new series. I've read a couple of Ms Eaton's books in the past, so when I had a chance to read an advanced copy of this title, I jumped at the chance.

Calliope is an orphan taken in by her uncle and after he passes away, she finds that she's inherited his fortune with the provision that she's married by her 21st birthday. Leo, the Earl of Winchester, has hidden himself away from society since he lost his family 7 years earlier.

So both of these characters I really liked. And the situation they found themselves in was quite interesting. But, I personally could have used a bit more in the story to bump this up from a 4 star read. I felt that while there was a lot of set up, once these two characters met, it went super fast and next thing I know they're in love and the story is over. I get that there is a limited time frame of 18 days as mentioned in the blurb. But I felt that most of those 18 days were skimmed over. I could have used a bit more of the relationship between Calliope and Leo.

All that said, I really did enjoy this book. It was read in under an hour and it made me laugh and reach towards my Kleenex. And now I'm curious about the next book in the Secret Wallflower Society series.
