Volume 1 had it right. Volume 2 is pretty weak to stand on its own. Unlike the first collection of issues, this one had no single overarching plot, no strong plot lines, and no conclusion. The pulp/noir feeling/style prevalent in the first volume is non-existent here. The are multiple plot lines going on in this collection and none of them end satisfactorily in any way; basically making sure that you if you want to stop, stop at volume 1, otherwise continue to volume 3.
