I totally got suckered into reading this – a story about a WWII nurse writing letters anonymously? How could this not be right up my alley? What I didn't figure out until I was about 50 pages into the book and fully involved in the tale is that this is a Christian romance. I've got nothing against the morally righteous, they just seldom turn up in the books I read quoting scripture. I reached a dilemma. Do I continue to read the story which was full of sort-of accurate tales of battles in North Africa during the war or do I abandon the story because I don't cotton to the characters belief system? I decided to man-up and read the rest of the book. I'm an open-minded individual. I just breezed past the preachiest bits and stuck to the essence of the story, not the moralistic overtones. All in all, it was a sweet tale though the “we can't be together because he'll never like me” got a bit old towards the end.
