“You're naming your collector's-item, kick-ass sword that's made to maim and kill, specifically designed to bring your ginormous enemies to their knees and hear the lamentation of their women- Pooky Bear?”
This series is fantastic. I love the characters, the plot, the premise. They all go together to form this amazing fast-paced, action filled story. World After starts off right where Angelfall left off and like Angelfall I flew through this book. I didn't want to put it down, I wanted to find out exactly what was going to happen to Penryn and Raffe, and even Paige and their mom. One thing I can say is that while I'm glad I waited until now to start this series since End of Days comes out in May, I'm also sad that I waited this long. This series is so amazingly done that I wish I had read it sooner.
My only complaint with this installment is the lack of Raffe for the first half of this book. However, while he may not be with Penryn physically, the sword brings them together. I loved all the little background information we got on Raffe from the sword. And of course once they were together again, I was beyond excited. The banter between them is perfect and I love every minute of it. They are both such strong characters who work perfectly together, but are also completely capable on their own.
To me this installment seemed creepier and darker than the first. Locust like beings have a strong presence in this installment, plus what goes on with Paige in this book. I felt so bad for what she had to go through, especially when you remember that she is only 7. There were many times in this book where I would forget just how young Paige is. And to imagine what she went through and is going through is heartbreaking. But at least she has Penryn and her mom who will do anything for her.
I cannot wait to get my hands on End of Days. I hope it picks up right where were left Penryn, Raffe, and Paige. I also really need more Raffe and Penryn.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
World After by Susan Ee was a good sequel. The second book was a lot more focused on the fighting aspect than the relationship between Raffe and Penryn. Raffe still thinks that she is dead and he is going around fighting a lot of demons.
The war seems to be more of a fight between the angels and the demons in this book than with the humans. The humans seem to be useful toward the demons and turning them into monsters and their own personal slaves... just like Paige. It was sad seeing Paige as a monster and reading about her needing flesh from humans to survive.

Penryn and her family end up together in the beginning of the book but then get separated again. She spends her time going around trying to save her mother and sister. It was depressing that 2/3 into the book; Penryn and Raffe have still not found each other. They are finally reunited far into the book and Raffe seems to be really happy she is alive. You can tell away from her that he wants her but once they're together, he seems put off. I wish the book was full more of their relationship and friendship.
Overall, it was a good book. If you like the war aspect more than relationships then this is a good read. I still want to know what happens so I will most likely be picking up the 3rd book later this year... then the rest.
Come on, admit it, Pooky Bear," I said to the sword. "You love your new look. All the other swords will be jelaous.
It was a good sequel, I enjoyed it. But compared to the first book I was in no rush to finish this even though it's only 314 pages long. I flew right through the first one.
Maybe I was just not in the right mood for it. I really tough the writing was good, I like Susan Ee's writing style. I also like Penryn as the heroine, the action and the general direction of the plot. I also like the other characters, there's nothing in particular that bother me, I was entertained, but just not very invested in it. I felt something was missing. Not sure what. However I will happily read the third book when it comes out.
This one didn't annoy me nearly as much as the first did. I think that's because the disabled characters weren't in it as much. If they we're I have no doubt the ableism would've been just as bad as I was I. The first book. I know I've criticized the author, I do like this series!
Again, this is not a good book for those who are easily grossed out. It has a lot of monsters, blood and guts. The first book was much better, but I think I'm going to try and finish out the series.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
IT HAD ALL THE FEELS!
IT MADE ME LAUGH AND WANT TO CRY!
AND IT WAS SO GREAT!
I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO EVERY PERSON ON THE PLANET
I'm so in love with this series! I love how the romance isn't the main focus of the story, I love how badass Penryn is, I love how creepy and suspenseful and dark these books are. I think this series might be my new all-time favourite dystopian series, it's just so good!
i really enjoyed this, i really did. there were moments i loved and Penryn remains the amazing heroine she is, so does the dynamic between her and Raffe. it's just that I felt it didn't surpass the first book.
Yah, setdknya ak terhibur.
Level kesadisan bleh... i don't even want to imagine what's described in th book.
Sayang penerbitnya gk menerbitkan buku terakhirnya. Pdhl seri ini termasuk bagus kl dibanding seri hush hush atau fallen atau halo.
