I wholeheartedly believe that SJM sacrificed her first born child to write this book — I have never experienced that type of atmosphere like I did when I read those last 100 pages. I'm still in shock.

I haven't felt this giddy and happy about romance book since Emily Henry. There was just something so hot yet babygirl about this man. Will this be a pick me up reread? Yes, yes it will. 4.5

This book felt like watching someone's dream except you have no context for anything. One minute you're sleeping in a tent, the next you are on the peak of a mountain watching this 12ft bird levitate and die. Also the lack of dialogue was so boring and really made me disinterested in any of the characters and their relationships. And the world building in the beginning was so slow and confusing. I've read Sanderson books and I'm all for world building but this book made it feel like I was supposed to fill in all the blanks. The elves were sick. That's it. Otherwise if I could summarize this book in one sentence — wait what's going on?
When did I fall in love with this book? I WAS IN THE MIDDLE BEFORE I KNEW I BEGAN + zombies
I wanted to like this book but for these reasons I could not:
- lowkey a rip off of TSITP — like the set up is all there
- the characters were all kind of bland, they needed more depth and I just felt no attachment to any of them
- the plot twist was so basic and everyone saw it coming so it wasn't actually a plot twist
- employed my least favorite trope: mis communication...BUT didn't even use it correctly. If you are gonna use it, make me want to bash my head into a wall like I was kinda disappointed that all my reactions were so mild
- half the characters were so irrelevant why include them
I have quite literally bleed for this book and my soul was both crushed and lifted and I would read it again and again. Ave atque vale to this beautifully tragic story

Literally so disappointing because book one was AMAZING and this one was literally so bad and messy and all over the place that my 1 book every 3 days streak got SLAMMED into a brick wall. I was DRAGGING myself along the gravel pavement just to finish this book. I'm just glad that I didn't jump the gun and buy the third one — wiki here I come
