My favorite quote from this chapter is, “I'm counting on you.”
This quote displays how selfless Yuji is. He puts himself in the most dangerous position to take care and protect his friends even though he knows that there is a very high chance that he himself dies. I infer that later on in the manga, he will face an opponent that is so strong that Yuji is defeated. Since he is always the one put in dangerous positions, I think there will be a time where his friends are the ones protecting him.
The quote that I found the most interesting in the first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen is “When it's your time to go, make sure you're surrounded by others. Don't end up like me.” This is a quote from Yuji's grandpa and I believe it will foreshadow his future really well. This is since the first few pages of the chapter, we see how friendly, caring, and loving Yuji is with his Occult Research club members. I believe that when Yuji grows older and one day gets more involved with the world of monsters and curses that he will also easily find friends and make good relationships surrounding himself with others as his grandpa wished. Further, I think this quote is going to be Yuji's driving force and will to live. After the somewhat sudden death of his grandpa's death, I think Yuji will now live helping others, granting his grandfather's wish.
“Itadori will come back, even if it he dies as a result. That's the kind of guy he is.” This is my favorite quote of the chapter because it showcases Itadori's determination as well as his undying motivation to save those around him. Even if Itadori dies, he is willing to comeback, take his body from Sakuna and protect his comrade from the deadly curse.
“The only way to come to Tokyo without worrying about money was to do this.”
As a manga reader, this quote reminded me of Leorio, one of the main characters from a popular shonen manga named Hunter x Hunter. Leorio, like Nobara, said that he wanted to become a hero because it was a high-paying job. However, in the end, readers got an insight that he wanted to train to become the world's best doctor and he needed the money to do so. This goal came after one of his best friends died due to their inability to pay the hospital fees. Inferring that Nobara has a similar motive as Leorio, I wonder what inspires her to become a jujutsu sorcerer and hope to find out as I read more!
