This volume has, by far, the best moment of Yuji as a protagonist.
If you've made it so far thinking that Yuji often falls behind in terms of characterization compared to other more notable characters (Sukuna, Gojo, and even Megumi) you wouldn't be wrong. BUT, in this volume, Yuji has what I consider a “monstrous” development as a character and as a protagonist. This is due to the circumstances that he's faced with, that of fighting against his new friend while at the same time attempting to maintain his previously established beliefs intact.
That gives way to, so far, the most brilliant moment of the series that also leads to the best fight of the series (again, until this point) because of all the narrative construction until that point as well as the riveting action.
“I'm asking you, how about me? It's about modelling, modelling!”
“No, um... I'm in a rush, so...” (Panel 3).
This was by far my favorite quote in this chapter. Although this chapter lacked action and fighting scenes compared to the previous chapters, however, we are introduced to a new character Kugisaki Nobara. Kugisaki Nobara enters the Jujutsu Kaisen world with a rocky start. She is indirectly treated poorly by the people of Tokyo. When Nobara walks past a “model agent” she witnesses the model agent flirting with a pretty girl (who seemed like a stranger). Nobara immediately enters the scene and tries to fend the model agent off the girl, saying to hire her instead. Her looks and aggressive nature that contrast the cute, gentle nature of girls shocked the model agent. He instantly walks away, embarrassed. Although this scene was short, I think it will really foreshadow the obstacles that female Jujutsu Sorcerers will have to face. Female Jujutsu Sorcerers will have to fight against the sexist and unfair expectations that the outside world has of girls while trying to balance their strength and power in a world of curses.
