3.5 stars. I found this to be a much more satisfying read than the second book. Alexander Hamilton as a person and a husband is problematic. This book, while not completely historically accurate does give a believable description of character and mindset during the whole Maria Reynolds affair. This book does whitewash it some, though making both Hamilton and Reynolds more sympathetic than either likely were in reality.
I think Ms. de la Cruz could have a real talent for historical fiction if she would be more mindful of her word choices and refrain from having 19th century persons say things like, “I didn't want them to be all matchy-matchy,” (as Eliza Hamilton does).
