I love the concept of a vampire thief, but this was tepid and felt like it needed a few more edits to give it some meat. I loved Boneshaker (even though I'm not that into zombies or steampunk!) and its follow-ups, and there were glimpses into what made those books light-but-fun, but not enough glimpses to make me continue to read about this character.
The plot and characters are kind of cool (yay for bad ass drag queens and an abundance of atypical gender dynamics), but the pacing is pretty drab. Not her best.
Fantastic stuff. Cherie needs to do more urban fantasy. The book is engaging from beginning to end, although there were a few spots where I wanted her to get on with it.
My favorite thing about this novel: It's vampire fiction that does not focus on sex. Sexuality is involved, but it highlights the story rather than taking center stage.
What you get instead is Vampire spy/caper and action. Great read.
