I would give this 3.5 stars. It was a bit better than good but not quite really good. Not that it wasn't a fine YA novel but as an adult reader, I found some of the book a little lacking. The beginning of the story was so horrifying I actually wondered if this was a YA novel but then it settled down into standard YA fare of girl and boy and boy and girl plus super powers and no-one-understands-me.
There was a lot of potential in the landscape and the overall concept of a gaslight-era steampunk world with magic. There was lots of action and the story kept moving forward quickly so it was an overall fun read.
