It took me a while to get into this one. Gretel was hard to connect with, but the mystery and the side characters were great.
Hans and Gretel are still obsessed with food and quite selfish even after those issues with the witch. The boy who cried wolf is a man who still jokes too much. So those characters aren't likable. I didn't hate them and in the end I may have even liked them a little. They got themselves into crazy situations, like exploding wurst and being an accidental dominatrix. I didn't feel bad for them about it, so that was a benefit of not liking them too much.
Albrecht, Ferdinand, the mice, the hobgoblin, and the nurse were wonderful! They really made the story enjoyable. And it all ended happily for them, so that made me feel good too. The murder and the criminal were a little expected, but I didn't mind that.
Overall it was a light and funny cozy with grown up fairy tale characters.
