This book is a joke.I guess I finally have to come to terms with the fact that the Shatter Me series was never going to be what I wanted to be. Sure, Juliette gets where I wanted her to go. She has the power of the gods, she deserves nothing less than a pedestal and complete and utter devotion. But that doesn't mean the road there wasn't clunky, dull and profoundly pointless. If you're worried about Mafi's trademark bizarre prose, don't be. There's only a few awkward metaphors to be found, and no crossouts whatsoever. You know why that is? Because the vast majority of the text in this book exists between quotation marks. First, its Warner explaining to Juliette what kind of person he really is, and then Juliette regurgitates everything he said for Kenji, and then Juliette and Adam talk about their increasingly troubled feelings for eachother, and then they do it again, and again, and then Warner and Juliette talk about their feelings for each other, and then Juliette talks about all her feelings to Kenji....I swear to god, this is the entire book. Big hulking paragraphs of characters rambling. For the love of god, you want to say something, then show me! I am completely flabbergasted at how amateur this is. This isn't a novel! There's no story, there's no driving action, there's no actual conflict, the characters are so empty Mafi can swap out their personalities and backgrounds as she sees fit, the setting wouldn't withstand a sneeze its so thin. This is nothing but indulgent navel gazing. It's fangirly, over-the-top emotional masturbation.Believe it or not there are enjoyable parts to this, but only so much as a back of a cereal box can be informative. The relationship between Juliette and Warner is a patient, well-written story of two people who are totally right for each other. If you can blindly accept fact that suddenly a guy who came from a horribly abusive background and spent the past couple of years committing atrocities against humanity can suddenly shape into a loving and supportive boyfriend. The interactions between Juliette and Kenji are also adorable and heartfelt - if they weren't squashed in between Juliette's endless relatioship angst, they might actually mean something. Though I am genuinely happy Adam got finally called out for what he is - a fucking predator. A lot of fans are crying foul over Adam's supposed personality transplant, that all of a sudden he became this angry selfish person who doesn't appreciate Juliette for who and what she truly is. Newsflash kids, he's always been like this. I actually wrote about it way back when I first read Shatter Me. Did Mafi go way overboard demonizing him so that she could make room to glorify Warner? Hell yeah, she did. But at least it was somewhat consistent with what she set up in the first book. But the truth is, Mafi could have done anything with Adam's character. Or Warner's. Or Juliette's. She could have decided that Warner was actually an alien trying to brainwash everyone to join his hive, or that Adam really just wanted to run off and become a trapeze artist, and it would have worked. Because there was nothing there in the first place. The fact that Ignite Me spends so much time literally talking about who these people are and what they want tells me that Mafi just doesn't know how to show it organically through plot and conflict. Which should be, ya know, a basic thing that a writer knows how to do marginally well.I enjoyed [b:Unravel Me 13104080 Unravel Me (Shatter Me, #2) Tahereh Mafi https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1340287622s/13104080.jpg 18276967] for its sheer high powered camp, but even that requires something to actually happen. The plot in Ignite Me doesn't actually show up until perhaps the last fifty pages or so, and its sloppily done and boring. There are a few opportunities to create an interconnected story with some shred of depth, but they are completely lost. The villain is hardly given any thought, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even have any lines at all. His only purpose is to look cowardly and give Juliette something to step over on her way to glory. The plot as it turns out is just an afterthought to what is in fact a fairly generic romance. I thought about giving this two stars because if that is in fact what you're looking for, if you don't mind paying $15 for something you could probably get on fanfiction.net, then yeah I guess this is ok. But in terms of what should be the raw quality of an actual bonafide published book, I cannot in good conscious say this is anything more than bullshit.
I have to say, throughout the first two books, Juliette was not my favorite protagonist ever. I didn't hate her by any means, but while I loved her voice (because Tahereh Mafi has the most gorgeous prose I've basically ever read), I didn't particularly love all of Juliette's decisions or her outlook.
That being said, Juliette's development from first book to last is incredible. This series easily has some of the most nuanced, dramatic and yet believable character development you'll find out there (so, for YA writers, this is a fabulous example of how to do character development right. Seriously).
What I also loved about the conclusion to this trilogy is that it didn't end anything like I expected it to. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just refer back to the character development note, but that's really what resonated with me so strongly.
The only gripe I have is that I felt climax came and went a tad bit too quickly, but honestly, I loved the book far too much to really care.
So that about covers it! If you like fast-paced YA with fabulous character development and a truly unique and beautiful voice, I highly recommend this series. I loved every book and look forward to more of Mafi's work.
Could the plot be better? Yes. But I'm not here for the plot, I'm here for the characters. 10/10.
Aaron Warner Anderson, chief commander and regent of Sector 45, son of the supreme commander of The Reestablishment. He has a soft spot for fashion.
I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It's like it wasn't even set in the same universe as the previous books. Why? Because, first of all, Juliette is a completely different person. She stopped crying/trembling/gasping/complaining and seemed to have grown a pair, sometime in between these last two books. Basically unrecognizable.
What I liked the most about her is how she dealt with Adam. She was assertive and honest. She didn't let him manipulate her into getting back with him. And she didn't accept or justify his insults. She really didn't deserve his awful words and his hate even though she hurt his feelings. I also appreciated the fact that she admitted to herself she jumped the gun when she thought she loved Adam. And even though it was a really tense situation she didn't dramatize over it. Which is a first for her. So she cured herself and transformed into this fairly well adjusted person overnight. Not quite realistic, right? Well reality and the Shatter Me books do not really get along.
Then Warner turns out to be prince charming while we get confirmation that Adam is a total jackass. Sure I would've preferred if she didn't tell Warner she loves him so quickly, but I've forgiven her because they have this insane chemistry. Their romance got me giggling like a school girl. I was definitely rooting for them by page 60. I know, embarrassing, right? But what can ya do in the sight of tru lurv?
Everything else was just meh. The action was pretty much lacking, the fight-back plan was lame, the ending so rushed and unsatisfactory. But the book mostly focused on getting together J & W which was fine by me because that was the only part I really enjoyed. I mean I hated the fact that Warner kept calling her “love” but, overall good stuff.
4.75 I loved this book so much and I had all the feelings but then the end was a little anticlimactic and it just kind of ended. I want more from the end but Warner and Kenji were amazing so it made up for everything.
I can't breathe because of the intensity, anxiety, and excitement this book gave me. There was so much new information between all of the characters and I am so happy with how of their backgrounds were wrapped up. This is a series where I was never disappointed with how everything happened. Everything happened exactly how I wanted it! Tahereh made me feel anxious this entire last book. I was frantically flying through the pages as I read what was happening.

In Ignite Me, the stories continues where it left off with Juliette and Warner's “relationship”. I really loved the chemistry these two characters had together. I wanted to read more and see their love bloom. I wanted to finally see them confess to each other, explore their backgrounds, and break down those barriers that obviously both of them have.
Juliette is with Warner in his house right after she was shot and saved by the twins. He is watching over her and caring for her as she recovers. Juliette starts to learn new things about Warner and also that everything he did to her was on purpose! He did it so she would actually feel and react for once in her life. The readers will start to fall for him also and realize that he isn't a bad guy. The sad thing is though that Juliette learns that everyone is dead at Omega Point. She cannot fathom what has happened and what Anderson has done. She must see it for herself to believe.
This is how she gets to see the survivors and come up with a plan. She wants to take down Anderson and take over his army. She wants to be free of this burden and she will need her friends for this. But there there is Adam. Oh Adam, I felt so sorry for you the most of this book. The sadness and betrayal that you felt must of been horrible. I loved Adam and Juliette's relationship in the beginning but you can tell he didn't want the new her. The strong and independent Juliette that wasn't going to sit back and just let the world rot away because she has a boyfriend.
Everything happens so quickly near the end of the book. Everything is getting put together and they are getting ready for their fight. Juliette and Warner have finally decided to be together and I couldn't of been happier. They have so much passion and love for each other. It is strong and they both understand how each person feels. The most amazing thing was probably when Juliette found him in his house after his mother died. How he felt so small and innocent as she helped him through that difficult time made him feel more like a human being. I was so heartbroken. I love Warners character and everything he stands for. He is so misunderstood and so smart when it comes to tactics. He made sure everyone feared him so he could live. All the hurt his father did to him will be claimed and taken away by Juliette.
This final book was amazing! I loved every second of it and I was upset when I couldn't just sit in my room and read it. I could of read it in one sitting like I did with Unravel Me. I need more but also I don't because Tahereh ends it with such grace. It all comes together and you feel complete. It isn't a raging ending or a hurtful one. You will feel complete once it is over and that is all a reader can ask of an author.
I absolutely loved this book(it's obvious since I read it in one day) and I adored Aaron. He became one of my favourite characters ever and I would've loved it if there were more books in this series, because I felt like there were not enough things said about him and we didn't actually discover the true Aaron.
2.5 stars.
I loved the ending.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series!! The books got better and better. Ignite Me was my favourite in the series and Shatter Me was my least favourite.
not as good as i remember it being when i read it first (i was 15). but definitely still a fav!!!!!
Schrijfstijl is gewoon top! Gewoon een erg leuke serie
4.5 stars
A fantastic final novel to the trilogy. This is definitely my favorite of the books because kickass Juliette is real and Warner is asdfghjkl and Kenji is the best person in the entire world and James is so cute and there were actual funny things that happened that I actually laughed out loud at.
Loved it. Loved it loved it loved it.
This book has a lot of flaws, but damn, I couldn't book this down. I don't remember liking a YA trilogy this consistently where all 3 books were 5 stars. Even the Delirium trilogy I loved the second book but was disappointed with the third.
I don't know what it is about this series, but everything just clicks and makes me want to continue reading. I really like Warner's character and a good love triangle never hurt either. I like how Warner is complex and complicated. But I feel like there's enough backstory here to justify it. He's also not the typical alpha male that I read about in romances that just force themselves on the FMC but it's okay because women like aggressive men(?).
This book changes directions and the characters can be inconsistent, but I feel like the secondary characters make up for it because they point it out. So it feels like the author is aware of this. Also there's so much dialogue, which I feel where a lot of the magic happens.
This book doesn't do world-building very well or have good pacing when there is a war going on but I don't care. It keeps me hooked.
2.5 Stars
This was way better than book 2 but still not as pleasing as I would expected it to be. Juliette seems to be a different person depending on her boyfriend (which was kind of dumb). Adams ‘reaction' was just plain stupid and only empathized the ‘feeling' for Team Warner.
I did like Juliette more with Warner (nowhere near perfect but closer than with Adam). The tension in this book was like an ECG of a heart infarct. There were so many spikes which were mostly dissolved in a few pages but the little main tension was still available. The plot was simply foreseen and not as shocking as I would have like it. The ending was just ugh. I thought: ok, open endings are fine and I get why there isn't a fourth book (because there is not enough to handle after this ending), but a novella could have solved this.
Overall I see the series as overhyped and don't see why it would be so good.
So good! Nothing fancy when it comes to the worldbuilding and story structure but i thought it was entertaining.
Finished! Ok I agree that it's the best book out of the 3. My rating is 3.75 out of 5. This was the most dynamic book and I enjoyed the plot and the romance. But the pacing of the book felt a bit weird and lowkey rushed at the end. I rly enjoyed Aaron's and J's romance :) I finally get the hype. I lowkey thought that at the end Aaron is injured again or dying but no bro is chilling. I liked that Juliette was finally thinking more rationally and less ‘crazy' like in the earlier books. The dramatic metaphors and similes finally got to me tho. 3 books in and I started rly noticing and getting annoyed at it. Adam is a dick also- genuinely a messed up person too, guess the genes do pass:uhhh: . Tho I did enjoy the plot enough to want to continue the series cause I just wanna see what the author could brew up. Ending rly sucked tho, we didn't even get to see what went on with the rest of the characters. Like it felt Juliette rly didn't need anyone except herself to beat Anderson. Also the blonde guy????? He appeared and died within the same chapter like what
