Loved this Book ! Really succeed to give enough to create a credible trilogy.
So so so excited for Finale🙏
I loved it even more than Caraval...and I LOVED Caraval. I thought I had it all figured out...I read Caraval twice...so this time I'd figure out which end is up. NOPE. This book followed Donatella who is nothing like her sister, Scarlett ( who was the MC in Caraval) and she came off as a bit reckless there. But from her point of view...she's not at all. I eagerly await the next ( and last 😭😭) book.
Really enjoyed this. Tella is a great POV and I loved seeing Caraval through her eyes after reading a different game through Scarlett's. This book ended with all the things happening, but now we must wait until next year for Finale.
The first book, Caraval, is alright. It was good, but nothing special. I didn't really care for Scarlett. I definitely didn't care for Tella. I didn't really understand the world.
But this book? This book surprised me. The world building was phenomenal. Things I should have predicted, I didn't. And Tella? I want to be her best friend. I love Tella.
Still don't really care for Scarlett though.
Wow I did not expect to like this book more than the first one in the series, but I did! It was a crazy roller coaster of events but I liked the characters in this book even more than the ones in the last (I prefer Donna Tella and Dante to Scarlett and Julian... sorry if my spelling of their names is off, I listened to the audiobook)! I actually even enjoyed Jax as a character and loved the moments when Donna Tella and he interacted.
The writing style could be a little flowery at times. I mean stuff like “smells of secrets”. And occasionally Donnatella really annoyed me, I mean why couldn't she believe the game was real after she already believed Jax was a fate. That seemed silly to me but besides those two things I loved this!
The romance in this book was just the right amount for me balanced with the adventure and all the mystery. I can't wait to dive into the next book and see where it goes.
4.5*
I hated Tella in the first book so was anxious about going into this one knowing it is from her point of view.. Although I still find Tella semi annoying, she did grow on me.
Loved this one! Much better than the first one and made much more sense to me! I could actually understand the clues and lead up to the reveal in this one instead of me being confused the whole of caraval because of the clues
Finally! I finally finished this book-I feel like I've been reading it forever, even though it's only been a month. This book dragged to me. It didn't have the same magic as the first book. The characters weren't as developed as in the first book. Overall, it was just OK.
Holy hell. I'm broken, happy, sad and so so happy that I've read this book. And that all at once. These books, damn they're good
I loved it almost as much as Caraval. At first I did not like it that much because we don't see Scarlett as the main character, we have Tella instead and she is very different from Scarlett. She grew on me and I ended up loving her.
This is such an interesting and intriguing book, you can feel the magic in it, it makes you want to keep reading and reading. It's so good because as the characters, you end up having the same problem. You don't know what is real and what is part of the game.
3.5.
The twists are getting a tiny bit annoying but these books are so quick I can't be mad haha
3/5 ⭐
What happened here? That's my question for Stephanie Garber. What happened? The first book was so good and this one was just not. It lost all of it's magic for me. I hate Tella with every fiber of my being. I don't like the turn that the plot took in this book. I became darker and more about the “Fates.” It was so boring to me. The best part of this book was Dante.

Are you ready for another game? The magic of Caraval once again graces the world for the Empress's birthday and this time Tella has no choice but to play. Indebted to a dangerous man, Tella must win the game in order to discover Legend's true name to clear her debt. But winning the game may cost her more than she originally bargained for. As the magic of Caraval comes to life Tella will find herself swept up in a fight for both her heart and life. But it's just a game. Or is it?
Tella's story is a much faster paced adventure than Scarlett's. Tella is impulsive and more likely to take risks. She is also quite the conflicted character once you get to know her, and I loved every minute of it. She dives headfirst into situations and is passionate about everything she does. Even if she is afraid, she does her best not to show it and has a sharp tongue to back her up. The pacing was also helped by the fact that the stakes were higher than the last book. Tella has to go through riskier situations than Scarlet ever had to. As a character, Scarlett most likely would not have been able to accomplish even half of what Tella did in this book.
The world is also cracked open and expands beyond the sisters and their family. Stephanie Garber begins to add in world history, information on the fates, and how magic once worked. And don't worry the family ties are still a strong theme in this story, they are just accented by the world-building.
Stephanie Garber has once again created a beautiful and dangerous world for the characters to traverse. The descriptions are just as vivid and colorful as in Caraval, drawing the reader in and immersing them in a world that leaves them stunned. The writing style of Legendary is bursting with creativity and immediately pulls you in, making you sort through what is real and imaginary alongside the characters. And even after the story has come to an end you will look back over everything you experienced to try to sort out what was real. I don't want this adventure to end, but there is only one more book to go. And I can't wait to start it!
i definitely liked this book a lot more than i liked the first book! the story line felt a lot more original and i cared about the characters more. i did see the ending coming the entire book, but it was still fun to read! super excited to finish up this trilogy when the conclusion is released in may!
3,5/5⭐️
Nu weten we eindelijk wie legende is. Dat was wel een beetje te verwachten op een bepaald punt, maar dat vond ik persoonlijk niet zo storend. Ik ben benieuwd wat deel 3 gaat brengen!
Actual rating: 4.5 stars
I loved this book so much: From seeing the characters again to the magic and the writing!
Why I only gave it 4.5 stars and not a full 5? Because it didn't feel as uniquely magical as Caraval, the first book, felt and I think I know why but I'm sure that would be a bit spoilery so I will keep that to myself. Additionally, I could guess 2 plot twists and one a bit but this didn't make the book any worse for me!
I still loved it very much and highly anticipate the next and last book!😍
