Sana Takeda's artwork is absolutely stunning. It's hard to assess the story from the first issue since it's an introduction and not that long, but I am really curious about Maika's past and her connection to the monster. I'd like to read the collection containing the first six issues that is coming out later this month.
Full (But Still Brief) Review: http://www.fantasybookcafe.com/2016/07/mini-reviews-monstress-1-kingfisher-and-golden-son/
Reread in July 2016.
The story starts with people buying an Acurian like a slave. She is not human. Her kind have been enslaved by human who treat them badly. Especially the one who buys Maika. She runs experiments on them. There are many different types of aliens in her, fox girl and bird girl etc. There is a cat with two tails.
It turns out that Maika planned to get enslaved so she could enact her revenge.
I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
It is well drawn as well. The story flows nicely.
