The more comic books I read, the pickier I become. The plot is solid and the artwork very good but I find myself emotionally uninvested in our protagonist and her problems, as intriguing as they are objectively. Because this series is still ongoing, there's no resolution expected anytime soon and that bugs me.
Beautiful art, interesting setting. Only problem is it's too fast paced to care about what's going on for me, who are these people and why should I give a shit? This seems to be my general problem with western comics however... Probably won't pick up the second volume.
This reminded me of the issue of Batgirl with the two motorcycles villains.
I really liked the characters, but I didn't feel super invested. I wasn't the biggest fan of Burnside Batgirl and this could have fit right in there with a few curse words thrown in to “adult” it up. Even then, it was a teen read. I don't think I enjoyed it enough to read the next volume until I catch up on the books I really enjoy. This would be a great borrow from the library when I'm all caught up!
This is illustrated by one of my favorites Babs Tarr! The artwork, coloring, and layout is amazing ! The story is also great, with Domino being a racer and has a mysterious being following her and her ability to use the power of ‘crush' when no one else can. I wish they would explain why ‘crush' is valuable to people who don't have the power to directly use it. Maybe just to power source? Kinda has a neon mad max vibe at times and is a quick fun read! ~Ashley
If you liked this, then I would try Batgirl, Vol. 1: The Batgirl of Burnside
