This is one of the best fantasy novels I have read. This series just gets better with each book. Don't sleep on this one!!
“We do what we must to protect the ones we love... may Heraya embrace you all”
I'm truly at a loss for words with how amazing this book is. Of War and Ruin has officially become my favorite book. And as long as this series continues this strong, then The Bound and the Broken will go down as my favorite series
Simply incredible
A few days have passed since I finished this and I'm still thinking and thinking about it! I don't think I'll stop anytime soon. What a wild ride it was!
I saw a lot of mention of this on Twitter and having now read the series to date, I can finally understand what all the hype has been about! The hype, in my opinion, is well and truly justified.
Ryan created an amazing world, with some fantastic characters. Not just simple characters, but a few that were not as black and white as they initially seemed. Creating complicated characters that had you changing your mind about them again and again was something done really well.
Apart from Calen, Vaeril, Tarmon and Erik, shoutout to Gaeleron, Farda, Ella, Arden, Dayne, Belina, Dann, Alina and Valdrin. Oh, and who can forget Valerys?!
This one continued from where we left off in Book 2 and the high stakes and intensity never let up! You really didn't get a chance to catch your breath before you were pulled into yet more intense action. I'm still not sure I've caught my breath yet! I'm impatient for the next book in the series, but I'm also glad there's a bit of a breather between this one and the next because it's definitely needed!
IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS SERIES THEN WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GO AND READ IT!!!! Honestly, I can't recommend it highly enough! It is so damn good! Kudos to Ryan. He's done an incredible job with this series and I truly cannot wait for more! As fantasy series go, this is EPIC.
I can't believe I've finished this behemoth of a book and it's only part way through the series.
The sheer scale of the world Ryan Cahill has created is hugely impressive and to keep so many different storylines both interesting and perfectly paced is incredible. At no point in nearly 1500 pages was I bored.
It took me around a month to read this but I'm happy it did, I wanted to take my time with it and take a break when needed, otherwise it could seem overwhelming. I didn't want to be put off or not want to read it at any point.
I laughed, I cried, I feel exhausted but I also need the next book soon please
The characters were amazing, interesting. Some felt a little bit weird, Belina started being quite annoying as the book went on. However, other characters, like Rist, were improved upon greatly and became real highlights. Some characters, like Arden, probably would have benefitted from a little bit more character development, as he, after a whole book and quite a lot of appearances, still felt a bit flat.
Valtara's and Dayne's arc is one of the more interesting plotlines, however, it feel slightly disconnected from overall plot.
It is also, very interesting to finally see motivations of the “bad guys,” and it would really be interesting to see more of their perspectives.
However, it feels like this book was a bit too long for its own good. The ending did feel underwhelming. Yet, at times it felt like this book just dragged on too much and would never end. It probably would have been better to slip this book into two volumes, especially as around half way through the book, the story has already hit a huge climax.
