I LOVE this book!
I love everything I have read from Justina Ireland. Her plots are compelling. Her characters are strong and capable. The world she creates is scary because the conclusions feel like realistic outcomes of the events she sets up.
As Laura discovers her powers, we get to understand the world without an info dump and we get to experience the awe from the magic as well. The inclusion of the pictures and parts of Skylark's report make you keep reading because you want to know how it all comes together.
Read this book!
I LOVED this so much! The magic system, Laura's personality, the way Ireland weaves in history and myth and social commentary all into a great story.
I hope there is a sequel!!
OOh this was cool! For me, I've been a fan of Justina Ireland's online presence and activism for a long time but her books haven't always hit for me. I thought [b:Dread Nation 30223025 Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1) Justina Ireland https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1497900615l/30223025.SY75.jpg 50676909] sounded like an amazing concept but the book itself didn't quite live up to my hopes for it. But the premise for this one sounded so cool I had to check it out and I'm glad I did! There's a lot of world building to set up and it's a liiil clunky at times but overall really cool shit, great characters, great social/historical commentary.
