I am really liking this! Volume 2 was just as good as Volume 1 and now I need to go get the third volume!!
Loooooooooove. Have been a trade-waiter, not sure I will be anymore.
March 2014 reread notes: Yeah, trade-waiting means I had to reread this when the third trade came out in order to remember who Gwendolyn was.
Not disappointed. Often volume 2 of a series does. I'm slightly concerned that there's too many plot threads though.
Utterly addictive. Moving, funny, and thought-provoking. And the art is genuinely stunning.
This was everything the first volume in the series was, but moreso. Which, given how much I enjoyed that book, is saying something. At the very end of Saga vol 1, Marko's parents showed up, and dealing with their appearance is one of the main drives of this volume. The plot's on a super slow burn, but I think that all of the work being put into establishing these characters and making their relationships real is going to pay off huge the further we get into the saga.
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to agree with the author and call this Star Wars meets Game of Thrones, but certainly Farscape meets Mass Effect. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with that
Story
This book like the first volume went entirely too quick. Now I'm torn on if I can wait for volume 3 to be released, or if I want to buy individual issues that have been released since. Waiting monthly for each issue seems bad enough, waiting an uncertain amount of time for the next 6 issues to be collected into a volume seems like torture.
We get a lot more depth to the characters in this one. The scenes between Alana and Marko's father are particularly good, but really the whole thing is great. That The Will is no Boba Fett is even more apparent in this volume than the last. I'll be curious to see what he does when he catches up with the fugitives.
I debated giving this book 5 stars. If I did, I should really give volume one 5 stars as well. I've enjoyed every page of every issue. I'm just stingy I guess. It's certainly the best thing I've read in this format (not that I'm well versed in graphic novels), especially when comparing it to the two Batman graphic novels I read this weekend. I certainly enjoyed it a lot more.
I'll just give it 4.5 stars rounded down because I'm stingy.
Artwork
I again enjoy Ms. Staples artwork bringing the story of Mr. Vaughan to life and filling in details of this page-turner. Some of the images are just too ridiculous to be described in words and had me laughing just as hard as the dialogue; Fard I'm looking at you (albeit very reluctantly).
Love this so much! Maybe even more than Volume 1! If I could give 6 out of 5 stars then I would. Amazing artwork by the very talented Fiona Staples, and such a wonderful story. I love the dialogue that Brian Vaughan bring to each scene, and it's thought provoking without being too serious. Highly recommended this series!
I am really enjoying this graphic novel. It is amazing. The artwork is awesome especially the color schemes. To me it has a nice balance between politics, racial issues, and comedy. I Can't wait to read Volume 3.
I don't know how many times I said “omg,” but it was a lot. The twists I didn't see coming are everything. I cried twice and laughed many times. I'm so happy I started reading this series, and thanks to the writing, I truly have no idea where this will go or how it will end, and I love it. *Eyes up the compendium.
I'm really enjoying this series. I love the artwork and the colours. I loved seeing Alana and Barr bond for the short amount of time they had together, and I also loved seeing how Marko and Alana met.
