A Time Best YA Book of All Time (2021) Two teens must learn the “art of killing” in this Printz Honor–winning book, the first in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, author of the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology. A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control. Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own. Scythe is the first novel of a thrilling new series by National Book Award–winning author Neal Shusterman in which Citra and Rowan learn that a perfect world comes only with a heavy price.

I really enjoy the world in this with the ideas about death and mortality and morality. However, the ending seemed rushed. Citra was not an easy character to like especially at the end with her choice of Scythe name and flawed reasoning. I hope the sequel focuses more on Rowan who is a far more interesting character.
Scythe was a very well written, engaging and a very realistic science fiction story.
I loved the idea of Cloud evolving into Thunderhead. People have a solution to all the problems, including death and what do they decide to do? Slack off! You got that right. The idea that humans have all the knowledge in the world and yet do nothing with it because they also have all the time in the world, was very realistic. Procrastination at its best.
I really enjoyed reading the journal entries for the Scythes. The little twists and turns throughout were well planned and not something I was able to guess.
The ending was even better. It wasn't just a way to circumvent the laws but it also proved to be a way for Citra and Rowan to help each other. Very smart.
The romance was not overpowering, barely there and never let the characters make stupid decisions because of it. I really enjoyed this book.
Oh wow, this might be one of my favourite read. Fave character goes to scythe Rowan. I really liked how he turned out at the end of the book. Oh, and also scythe Volta!! Such a conflicted character. The last test had me weeping... Dang this book made me think about a lot of things. chef kiss
Once again loved it. I've really begone to like his writing and style and the journal entries in between are really great. Like the unwind series so many details bind together in the end. Can't wait to read the next one
