Initially, I thought I was really going to like this book, but the story did not justify the length, and it began to bore me.
Mystery is not actually a mystery, we know the answer from the beginning and then just watch how MC clumsily stumbles into clues. And he constantly whines how he is not suited for this work (absolutely agree). It is somehow considered ok for MC to prey on married woman because her husband is ill and gentle, not a true manly man like MC. Villain is cartoonish and one-dimensional.
Feels like a fascinating peek back in time! I really appreciated how relatable the characters were. This is one of those mysteries where I was perhaps more interested in the setting than the sleuth, but that's pretty cool for a historical fiction, I think.
