Incredibly sweet and moving at parts. At times I loved the prose, and at times it became a little self-indulgent, but I think that's what Gay was going for anyway. The best part of this book is that I started counting my delights more or less intentionally throughout my days reading it. Thanks, Ross Gay!
Lovely little musings. A great book to feel a kinship across humanity for the delights we may notice in the moment and not voice.
Mere minutes ago I resolved this delightful book, and to say it has buoyed me during this ridiculous time could not be more of an understatement. I am a medical provider in this time of Corona. I closed the book for the final time (upon first reading) with an engagement ring on my finger that was not there when I opened the book (for the first time). This is the first book my group of friends and I have read for our newly created End of the World Bookclub that I created (which has been a goal of mine since I began creating goals). What Ross Gay does in his book of essays is meditatively weigh the pursuits of the day to day. As I think anyone existing currently could attend to, some days are more reflective of past events, some days are filled with exciting pops and bangs and crowds of friends, while finally, others make you work a little harder to find something to smile about. Gay holds the tension of sorrow and joy magnificently and it has been a delight of mine, each and every day to pick up this book.
