Executive Summary: I bit of a step back from [b:The Blinding Knife 12499290 The Blinding Knife (Lightbringer, #2) Brent Weeks https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1338432693s/12499290.jpg 17484647], but still a much better book than [b:The Black Prism 7165300 The Black Prism (Lightbringer, #1) Brent Weeks https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327921884s/7165300.jpg 7534979]. 3.5 Stars rounded up.Audio book: Simon Vance is awesome. Another excellent job. I'm so glad this series switched to him as the narrator.Full ReviewI was a bit reluctant to continue this series after Black Prism. I just found Kip so incredibly unlikable. Thankfully his character has evolved and I'm finally starting to come around on him. It's only taken 3 books. >.<I found this book a bit slow in places, especially at the start. It largely feels like a setup book. There are some good parts. I especially like the Blackguard training. For me it's the world building, magic system, and politics that keep my interest. I find most of the characters if not unlikable, certainly a bit off putting. There are characters I do like though. In particular Ironfist and Teia. There are some really interesting OMG Spoiler type developments here. Definitely took a few turns I didn't see coming. It also ends on an awful cliffhanger. Having read all three books almost back to back, it's frustrating to catch up and have to wait. I will definitely be getting book 4 on release day, and likely the rest of the series as well.
DNF @ 45%.
I just can't do this to myself. I hear so many reviewers talk about this series so positively and I can't see where they're coming from at all. If someone mentioned they were thinking of reading the Lightbringer series in front of me I would have to strongly reccomend they pick up any other series instead.
