Wonderful wonderful wonderful. I was completely absorbed by the story.
I enjoyed reading this, though I haven't loved other of Gaiman's books. The story is interesting, and I liked the characters. I definitely wanted to keep reading and find out what happened.
During my read of the Graveyard book, I suffered a loss. I don't know much about fate, however, this book tremendously helped me coping, even though I had to stop it for a while just after the events. It's been a few months now and I finally finished it completely, signalling the fact that I restarted to read. It healed me as much if not more than the best self-help article about grieving, even though I doubt it was intended too. It helped me coping and more importantly hope. Thank you a million for that Mr Gaiman.
I've heard about Neil Gaiman for years. my one friend is always trying to get me to read his books. I read Coraline last year and found it just as creepy as the movie. I enjoyed that but found myself referencing what i saw in the movie instead of using my imagination.
The graveyard book isn't a movie yet so I can say I've finally read Neil Gaiman. i CHOOSE to read his book, not just because I wanted the relive time in a world from a movie but because it caught my interest.
What a great find. I liked Bod and Silas, and the book was written with such a quirky voice. I see now why everyone loves the author.
I also loved the authors subtle handling of death. He doesn't scare you with the families murders. There are so many ways to write that scene and I thought he handled it so well.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
I was disappointed by the end. I feel like I didn't get closure. Maybe there is a plan for a sequel? Also, what was the purpose of Scarlett? Where is he expected to go at 15? Alone? I understand that he can't stay there forever, but how about guidance? how does he know what to do with the money? I'm left with all these burning questions.
With this book done, it's off to the next adventure.
This was..... Hauntingly beautiful (pun intended).
I enjoyed the Danse Macabre chapter very much, and I also loved the whole new world Gaiman put us in. It was an amazing read and so very clever.
This reads like a classic fairy tale or a children's story but has a lot of very dark elements. The first page is set immediately after the grisly murder of (almost) an entire family. The majority of the story takes place in an old graveyard at the top of a hill and you meet its many inhabitants as well as a mysterious not-dead-nor-living man (he's obviously a vampire though the word, and description of his more unsavoury activities, is never mentioned in the book). I expected to be bored but knowing it was written by Gaiman, I should have known better. Each character, even those that barely appear [enter ghost pun here], are detailed in such a way that you feel like you've known them as long as Bod himself has. The last few pages even made me cry a bit for I felt strongly enough for each character.
If you're a fan of Gaiman, ghosts, and murder mysteries, I highly recommend.
The book is about a boy, whose family is killed by a man named John and he is the only one to survive. To save his life he is sent to live in the graveyard where he is protected and raised by the dead.
I enjoyed the story. It had a lot of ghosts, vampires, and adventure. I really liked Nobody and the people who protected him. Also, I liked the twists! I just felt that the book could be more extensive and bigger. When I finished, I felt that something was missing and I needed more stories.
Overall it is a great book for kids and adults.
Neil Gaiman is a Halloween staple for me. His children's horror is incredible. This book made me care so deeply for each and every character, and the end genuinely made me cry. I loved it. It's a delightful horror twist on the Jungle Book and absolutely worth a read!
I enjoy Gaiman's storytelling. The magic of the graveyard that Bod learned as he grew up was intriguing and there was a bit of mystery thrown into the story, but this book wasn't really my favorite.
I read the paperback and listened to the full cast audiobook at the same time and it was amazing. One of my favorite books for now!
This book, like all Gaiman's books, was amazing and I was sorry it had to end. I could read the Graveyard adventures of Nobody Owens until the end of time itself!
What an imagination! To make a baby live in a graveyard being raised by supernatural beings makes this book so enjoyable. Great story, well developped characters. Nobody Owens was such a great character, This book is a quick read but such a delight!
Very good book overall and the note at the end from Gaiman about how the story was written made it even better. I almost would've preferred it at the beginning, but then some parts wouldn't have made as much sense or might have spoiled it slightly. But it really tied things together and gave it an enjoyable ending, knowing the background. The story was very good, a few dry/slow spots that didn't feel like they had as much to do with the rest of the story or not worth the amount of time they took. It has some thrilling parts, but the book isn't a thriller. It keeps you guessing until the end. It ties up fairly well, but not quite as well as I'd hoped. I had a few unanswered questions. Maybe another read/listen would help or maybe they weren't all answered.
Note: I listened to this on Audible.
The Graveyard book was one of the best reads of 2018, heart-wrenching, emotional. Nobody Owens will win your hearts with his innocent unapologetic brave behavior.
Gaiman goodness as always. An author has done his story justice when the masses title it a book for ‘Young Adults' or ‘Children' yet the story captivates the stone-hearted of adults. Follow the story of Nobody Owens, or Bod for short, as he is raised, cared for, and guarded over (by the elusive Silas) in the graveyard on the hill. Friendships are woven, and adventures are embarked upon as Bod slowly learns of his troublesome past - and goes to risqué lengths to learn of his once living family, and the supernatural assassin who disposes of them. This is an entertaining read and a great start for newbies to Gaiman's mind.
Another fabulous novel by Neil Gaiman. It walks the libe of reality and fantasy. It isn't this world, but it almost could be. Bod is a wonderful character surrounded by several other wonderful characters. It could be called a coming of age nivel, but I don't normally like those. It seems to me to be more like a family protecting a kid and a kid protecting the family. But it is more than that too.
Whatever category it is and whatever short ezplination someone wants to give it won't be quite right. Suffice it to say that it is a Neil Gaiman book.
A wonderfully macabre and touching tale of Nobody Owens and he childhood as a member of a graveyard. Truly an amazing read that ranks up there with some of the very best writing that Nail Gaiman has ever done. And that's saying a lot!
I loved this audio book. I only wish there was more to it. I did not want it to end. Magical and light and dark. Perfect.
