If you like Ancient Greek Mythology this is the book for you! Even if you don't you'll love it.I've just finished reading this a fews days ago and absolutely loved it,I didn't want to put it down.
When I started reading this i had no interest in Ancient Greek Mythology but the second I started reading it i was hooked. It's such and interesting topic and there is so many exciting things to learn.
If your looking for a fun, exciting adventure story to read this is the one for you.I recommend to to everyone, it's an absolutely brilliant piece of work by Rick Riordan.
I'm not going to get into the plot of this because at this point everyone knows the general premise of this book through societal osmosis.
I have never read this series. Growing up, I was a huge fan of another mg/ya magical school story. But lately, my love for said other series is waning due to the author's hateful views. I've been eyeing this series as a possible series to fall in love with that has a similar vibe. I won't be able to recreate the nostalgia, but maybe I can find something to read to my kids one day. When I heard about the tv show on Disney+ that was announced, I decided now was the time.
I'm glad I finally did! This book was so fun. The characters are all so endearing, and the lore and plot are so interesting. The Greek mythology basis set in the modern world is very fun. It also allowed for a certain familiarity with the mythological creatures and beings, which made the story that much more cool. I have heard from friends and reviewers that these books mature as Percy gets older, and I'm very excited for that. While there were serious stakes in this book, the characters are only 11, so everything was a little whimsical and reads very young. I knew this going in, so it didn't bother me. I can't wait to watch these characters grow!
TW: abusive parent, death, murder
It's 4.5 read for me ^_^ such an enjoyable read, full of nice humor and with an interesting take on greek mythology
classico. 5 estrelas se fosse pela nostalgia e se eu ainda fosse uma criança lendo.
I absolutely love this book. This is a book my students love as well. I can always get them to read if I pull this out. can't wait to start book two.
I grew up on this series and came back to it while in a reading slump as a way to have a quick read to keep up with my yearly goal. Rick Riordan's intelligent writing stands the test of time 18 years later. Percy's sarcastic 12 year old voice is still relatable to me as a 22 year old. The book continues to be as clever as it is adventurous and I think anyone who enjoys reading YA would enjoy this book. The ability that Riordan has to adapt the classic myths we know and love and put them through a modern lense is unmatched in my opinion.
a very nice break from my horrid rotation of books lately. very nostalgic and nice to have a reminder of how much i really enjoy reading
Loved it a really well written book .
Will recommend the audiobook also as it takes you in the world of Percy.
Excited for reading the rest of the series...
This would probably be more enjoyable if I'd read the book first. On its own, it's way too fast paced and jumpy. But it seems adequate at delivering the story in short order. Not a fan of the art.
¿Me encantó?
As always, I had a blast reading this book and found myself looking at the characters this time. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 20 but I can still see a lot of similarities between 12-year-old me and 12-year-old Percy Jackson. If I'm being totally honest I think I still see some of him in my almost 22-year-old self. Revisiting Rick's world is always a wonderful treat and I look forward to reading book 2.
Una gran aventura, con mucha acción y entretenimiento. Con un plot un poco predecible, pero aún así valió mucho la pena. ⚡️🌊
If you like greek mythology or want to like it, you will most likely enjoy this.
I read it first more than 10 years ago and after this re-read I remember why I loved it so much back then.
Of course, there were a lot of conveniences and the power balance wasn't very clear, but given that this is a middle grade book , I can forgive all this.
It was a great time and I can't wait to continue with the series.
7/10
Fun, but a bit simple.
This feels almost like a Harry Potter reskin to me. Hopefully the depth and seriousness increase throughout the series in the same way as HP.
My Top 3 of Phrases:1. Even strength has to bow to wisdom sometimes.
2. What belongs to the sea will always return to the sea.
3. The sea does not like to be restrained.
I read this in like 5th grade ( actually my teacher read it to the clas) and it was really good. You should read them
I found this to be a fun read. I was familiar with enough Greek mythology to recognize characters and guess at some of the story and I thought that some of the ways the old Greek characters were integrated into a modern setting were very clever. It seemed like a good start of the series, and I hope to enjoy the next one as well.
Only took me waaaaay too long!
Coming from someone who watched the movie first years ago, I can see why people did not like it. But I did not expect Percy to only be in 6th grade.
Despite that the movie roughly follows the story of the book. Enjoyable listen and Jesse Bernstein did a great job!
