I liked the setting and the creepy house. I liked the complication of Eleanor not recognizing faces. The solution was fairly reasonable. I figured out about half of the solution really quickly. I did feel like some of the character's action didn't make sense. The different time periods and perspectives were just okay.
Overall, I think I need to read thrillers every so often. This was probably better than I am giving it credit for.
Solid VC Andrews-esque (but not like that, really) thriller at an old vacation home in the Swedish woods during a blizzard. Who can ask for more?

First want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review! When I saw this on the list to request to read I clicked so fast! I read “Lost Village” by Camilla and loved it. So I am so thankful to have been given a chance to read this one as well.
Eleanor's condition really makes for a thriller. I would hate to be put in her situation. Like, Lost Village, you have a point of view from someone who comes from a place they haven't been before and then you go back to the past and get a recollection of what happen from a family member during that time. I will admit I thought I had it figured out earlier what was going to happen and I was wrong, so that was nice.
The only things I have to complain about with the book is, like with Lost Village, they had a bit of a dry spell but even with it I really wanted to chug along and find out what was exactly going on. Another complaint is El in the end. Yeah, they were going to die by KiKi but I think El should have a bit more compassion for her. She also should have recognize that her grandmother was a damn mess and shouldn't have gotten as much compassion as she did.
Other than that it was a very good read, had me on the edge of my seat, and left in a kind of “what next?” phase!
I didn’t like any of the characters in this book, they all felt like caricatures of people. The boyfriend was insufferable, the aunt and grandmother felt mean in a way that felt cartoonish. And yet I actually enjoyed the overall mystery and the idea of the story was very intriguing. Not the best book I’ve ever read but nowhere near the worst, and I did find myself wanting to pick it up. So that’s why even with my distaste for the characters I had to give it at least a 3.5 even though an argument for a lower rating could be made.
I haven't read this author before and I'm glad I decided to take a chance. I've been wanting a good thriller for a while now and this fit the bill.
I love me some quick chapters and dual timelines so this was perfect for me. It flowed really well and I actually read this in under 24hrs
