The Stone and the Flute is an epic fantasy about a you big man named Listener and his quest to...well, that’s just it. Listener is not quite sure what he’s questing for, but he’s been warned that it’s difficult to know whether one has found “all” or just some small part of what one is looking for. The Stone and the Flute is a story about people’s stories, and we learn, like Listener, to hear the lives of the book’s many characters and see the humanity in every one. Most of Listener’s adventures are not killing dragons; they’re questions of who he is and how he might participate in the huge world around him.
