Really enjoyable exploration of a cult and its aftermath. I think I found a continuity error (I don't think the isolated members would know about the movie The Revenant?), and I would have liked to have known more about the “reckonings”, but otherwise, a quite fascinating what-if.
Impeccable writing, super interesting, but like others I thought the ending left a lot to be desired. I'll definitely be reading more by this author though!
Added: I'm increasing my ending because I keep thinking about this one!
I normally stay away from books which have cults in them because I end up not liking them almost all the time. The only exception to this was [b:The Last Housewife 59349100 The Last Housewife Ashley Winstead https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1649778403l/59349100.SY75.jpg 93510806] and this one. So you obviously know I recommend this. From the multiple chapters, I wasn't that interested in the before chapters (since they were solely based on the cult), but rather the aftermath of it and what was going on currently. Not many twists in the book because you know what is going on most of the time. I am not really sure what to think of the ending because that was totally unexpected I probably should've seen it coming but I didn't. And that caught me off guard.I'll definitely be picking up more books from this author. the main reason being, I keep seeing sooo many tiktoks of her books and I get major fomo so ill definitely be reading to see what the hype is all about:)
4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was thrilling and page turning. I finished it in 4/5 hours. I loved it, cult thrillers always pull me in.
I didn't see the twist coming, I liked seeing everyone's perspectives. I liked that you understood how deep the cults mind stuff went in this novel. It was great at explaining.
3,5 stars because the cult mentality is a heavy thing and ir could happen to anyone but it's still scary as f
I feel like Lucinda Berry has the perfect formula to make me happy with a thriller. A steady pace, characters built with depth, lots of plot twists in between and slightly ambiguous and weird endings. Ive come to enjoy looking forward to how she's gonna end her books.
As usual I was emotionally invested in the characters from the start.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy the cult thriller because it's a widely disliked trope that I've never bothered to try out but i really did enjoy reading it.
I loved the way this explored how each person reacted in this scenario, the mom who's been so thoroughly brainwashed, the daughter reuniting with the mom she thought was long gone, the dad who is still madly in love with his wife who went missing a decade ago, and his new wife who's seeing where she fits into all of this
Overall another great thriller experience.
