Slow burn? No. This is a no-burn until 80% in, or thereabouts. This was excruciatingly long. And the gag is, it's not even bad. But there IS such a thing as too much of anything. This book found that limit, and continued full speed ahead.

And it's hurt/comfort where one MC has too many terrible things happen to him and the other gets to play savior almost every time. The one time he's not around, the guy ends up in hospital.
